About Fough (twitter: @@FoughLightmare)

Hi! I'm Fred or "Fough" (pronounce "Foog") and I'm 32.
I'm your usual geek and "'90s kid": I've been playing videogames my whole life (especially Atari/Nintendo), and as far as I can remember, making videogames has always been what I dreamt of.
I now own a small indie dev company: Lightmare Studio in Bordeaux (France). Check the website! :)

Here’s our entry for the jam!

I had the idea of such a game in mind for some time now, so the theme “One room” was basically the one in a lifetime opprtunity to try and make it. It’s a platform hell game for Windows, and requires an Xbox360/XboxOne controller and lots of patience. I hope you’ll enjoy it!

Now, off to bed I go!

I’m in (we, really)

Hey there! Fough here!

So, just a short post to say that I’m in with my old partner Gwen. And boy am I psyched!

I’ll try not to drop out mid-way this time. I’ll focus on what matters and, above everything, I’ll play it safe by not trying to explore anything I don’t already know.

We’ll be using Game Maker Studio, Aesprite, Photoshop and BFXR.

Can’t express how glad I am of entering again. Need a break from the industry, and Ludum Dare’s the stuff. GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY! LET’S MAKE GREAT GAMES! (at least, let’s make games.)

I love you all.

In for the jam!

Hi there! I’ll be taking part to my 3rd LD. My first one was LD#27 Jam with Lightmare Studio, so it was kind of a long time ago now. The second was LD#29 Compo and I flunked.

Now’s my revenge! Muahahaha!

There will be two of us, and we’ll be using:

  • Game Maker Studio Pro
  • Photoshop + Cintiq
  • Maybe Spriter, but most probably just lo-res pixel art in Toshop
  • sfxr/bfxr
  • Audacity
  • Bosca Ceoil for music, even though I suck at it. I’ll try to make something not too grating.

Enjoy yourselves everybody! Good luck to y’all!

Okay, this is my second shot at compo. Last time, back in ol’ LD29, I had tried something a little bit too ambitious with multi-agent pathfinding and since the laptop I used couldn’t display Game Maker Studio’s debug grid, I was eventually forced to drop out.

So, LD31 will be my revenge! Muhahaha! I’ll probably try to stick to something simpler, though. Depends on the theme, I guess.

I’ll be using Game Maker Studio (Pro), Photoshop, probably Flash or Spriter for the animation, if the need for animation arises and Audacity and BFXR for sound.

Good luck everybody! See you on the battlefield!

I’m out

Well I’ve never managed my lows too well, but here it is: I’m out.

I’ve made several mistakes:

  • I shouldn’t have ventured out of my comfort zone. I thought the concept I had was not too ambitious, but there’s a gap between “I have an idea of how to do it” et “I  have already done it once and I know how to do it again”. There’s a lot of very small technical details to solve, not a big deal if I had had more time, but I didn’t.
  • Game Maker has almost serious no debug options, and one of the few didn’t work (apparently you can’t display a pathfinding grid in debug if you work on an integrated chipset). I had no idea I would have this problem, because I had no idea there could be such a limitation (ergo: don’t venture out of your comfort zone).

All in all, it’s not a bad experience. Although I’m frustrated (and quite mad at GMS to be honest), I did learn a lot.

The concept was a kind of simplified Dungeon Keeper: you would have managed bacteria in their conquest for a tooth’s nerve. The main idea was to give them orders (they would have been quite autonomous agents though, which kind of worked) so that they could dig the various layers of the teeth while finding a shelter when the “Big Toorthbrush” would come.

Well, that’s it! Thanks for reading, and good luck to everybody!

I woke up 20 minutes ago, learned about the theme, and sighed. It was one of the few themes in the list I didn’t quite like.

Well, anyway, after some thinking, I may have an idea based on another idea I had for another jam. Maybe I’m being a little claustrophobic, but all I can think for when I read “beneath the surface” is: “deep waters”, “darkness”, “lack of oxygen”. I kinda know what to do with that, but I’m afraid it will be long to develop. No time to waste; let’s get to work!

I’d readily eat thrice as much this weekend XD

Anyway, here’s my battlestation. A big thank you to Saphyre for lending me his computer and Motion Twin for offering me a shelter <:)

What I’ll be using

Ok, let’s check… I’ll be using:

  • Game Maker Studio (Pro license), and may or may not focus on HTML5. I’ll probably decide along the way what to do.
  • Adobe Photoshop with an Intuos 4, if I get that thing to work again.
  • Maybe Spriter, although I’ll probably stick to pixel art and therefore will animate directly with Toshop and Game Maker.
  • SFXR, which never fails to amaze me.
  • Instant noodles and loads of tea.

Gosh how could I forget how exciting this is? I feel like I’m atop a rollercoaster, ready to roll, but quite not yet. This moment where time is frozen just before the ride is so thrilling!

By the way, would anyone know a good procedural music generator? Thanks in advance!

First compo for me. I feel nervous.

Hi guys, I’m in!

I entered the LD27 Jam with my team and company Lightmare Studio (10 Seconds Left, Mr. Pink Rabbit!), but this is my first time solo! I can’t help but feeling nervous, this is a pretty big challenge given my low self-confidence 😀

I wonder what the theme will be and what I’ll come up with!
