The Humans Are Here!

Posted by

Didn’t get as much done as I would’ve liked, but my game “The Humans Are Here!” is now out!

The idea is that you are a God that has taken over the human world, but they have created portals into your realm to try and kill you. You know you cannot win, but how many of them can you take down with you?

Enjoy the bug-fest here!

I am entering Ludum Dare this time around as what is essentially my birthday party for myself, since that is this Thursday. I’ll be streaming the whole thing at http://www.twitch.tv/zeritum, and you are welcome to join me so you can watch me slowly create whatever crap comes out of this and shout violently at my ineptitude.

I will be using Java (with LWJGL) for the code, Photoshop for the “art” (I can’t draw, will avoid if possible :p ) and FL Studio for the music. Hoping for a good theme that I can get along with, but I’ll of course be trying my best for any theme that is chosen :)

Good luck to you all!

My game from LD30, Visibility, now on Steam Greenlight!

Post-Mortem is almost at completion! While the game isn’t 100% finished, the Steam Greenlight page is up and running for you to all go and vote if you wish.

If you do vote, it would be much appreciated if you leave a comment saying what you voted and why, to help improve the game in the future c:

THE GAME IS HERE

Post-Mortem! (From August, though)

I participated in LD30 in August and wasn’t able to do the one just gone. I had never really showed my game I made that weekend and seen people play it first hand. I got a lot of good comments about it (from the competition and real people, including strangers) and people have said that I should Greenlight it and attempt to get it on Steam.

So that’s what I’m doing!

It’ll take me a couple of weeks to fix up the last bugs, add some more levels and make it more efficient and also to create trailers and logos for it, so if I don’t get too distracted then it should be on the Greenlight page in early January next year!

Here is the original submission, so give it a try. After looking through the project files I have realised that levels 6-9 are broken (The spawnpoint is in the wrong place, you spawn very close to the exit xD) which is a result of finishing the game up after 20 hours without sleeping. I’m sure you all know the struggle.

If people are interested, I will post periodic updates on here (or maybe make a blog for it) on how things are getting on and we’ll see where this goes!

All done and uploaded!

Well, here is my entry to LD30!

Visibility is a light-based puzzle game where you must place your lights in efficient ways in order to be able to illuminate a path to the exit. In order to place these lights, you must be in the light realm. Entering into the realm is as easy as hitting space.

This game isn’t as linked to the theme as I had hoped, but I still had fun writing it.

Sounds may not work on Mac or Linux unless you have the required codecs, as they are .wav files.

There isn’t an applet at the moment as Java (and LWJGL) is rather awkward to port to browser without your own website to upload to. Sorry about that.

Finished!

I think I’m finished! Just time to export it and upload it to itch.io or something. Java applets are always fun.

How many levels?

Just a quick post to ask you guys, how many levels should I do? I’ve done nine and I think that’s OK but I don’t want to do too little or too many. Let me know in the comments please!

After-sleep update!

Posted by
Sunday, August 24th, 2014 6:27 am

Forgot to make an update before sleeping last night, so here is one now!

After around 12 hours of work yesterday I had the lighting, most of the game mechanics, the menu and 5 levels done (soon to be more). Here is something I added just before making this post today:

Onto making more levels and adding more interesting things such as reverse gravity and if I have time, water!

Music

GAH! Music is difficult!

I’m not even sure what sort of music to make!

Do you think it should be fast and trancy or slow and somber for a game that looks like this?

I’m thinking trancy, but I want to hear you opinions! Let me know!

Playtesting

I’m playtesting my game to see how easy the current levels are, although the results are biased as I know the levels since I designed them. Regardless of the fact that I designed these levels, this has happened far too many times.

Whoops.

Onwards!

Game idea and lighting demonstration

So I have an idea for a game!

It’s going to be a platformer where you must go into another area called the light realm. This is where you are able to place lights (shown in the video by the white background with red squares). This will be limited to a certain amount per level. You must switch back and forth between the realms to work out where to place your lights to then be able to find a route to the exit of the level.

It will make more sense when it’s done.

Here’s the video! (It actually runs at about 100fps but FRAPS slowed it down A LOT)

Lighting complete!

Well I was originally going to do this without any libraries, but at the last second I changed my mind and decided to use LWJGL instead! :p

Here is the lighting engine I have created for the game:

I guess it’s time to start making an actual game!

I’m in!

After having my birthday this Wednesday, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to enter due to family visiting, but since that has been postponed I shall be entering in my second LD! (Missed April because of the damn things called exams)

Language: Java

Libraries: None (going barebones :p)

IDE: IntelliJ Idea

Graphics Software: GIMP or Paint.NET, whichever is needed

Music Software: FL Studio 11

Game type: Depends on theme. Either side-scrolling or top-down because I’m not good enough for 3D :p

Diet: Dr. Pepper, Kettle Chips and Galaxy

Music I’ll be listening to: My rather extensive library of songs on shuffle (many days worth of music, 50GB of the stuff)

Sleep schedule: No

Good luck to all!

This error has had me stumped for around 4 hours now… Does anybody know what it is?
