raspberry pI’M mINicomputer

In case you didn’t see the confusing title is a mix of I’m in! and Raspberry Pi minicomputer. My aunt and uncle recently purchased me one (Thanks a lot guys!) and its so far been pretty fun to mess around with even though i don’t have proper hardware for it. In fact, I’m using my gaming setup and giant monitor to run the little computer!

In other words, I’m in! I missed the last ludum dare because of a bad case of the flu I had which made it so I couldn’t go in. But not this time!

Couldn’t Join

This Ludum Dare, I couldn’t join in because I was really sick >_<. My head had ached and my whole body ended up being useless for a couple days so, I couldn’t do anything. Maybe I could have except when I looked at my screen I would get a bad headache. Well, better luck next time!

Update X: I’m Lazy, but its finally over!

Posted by

Its done.

Take a look HERE

My game that follows the them (kinda) Ancient Technology for Ludum Dare 36.

I’ll admit I got pretty Lazy this Ludum Dare. But next time, we are going full force. Thanks 😀

WASD – Move
Right Click – Aim
Left Click – Shoot
R – Inspect
Space – Jump

You awaken in a blank room with a little compass that seems to be talking too you, telling you that you are trapped in another time, and you can get back with his help, but can you really trust him? As you use weapons from the present day to easily dispatch old warriors from Rome and Egypt, doesn’t it feel a little TOO easy?
Sound Effects: BFXR
Music: FL Studio
Modeling: MagicaVoxel
Programming: Unity + C#
Entertainment/Encouragement: Friends at skype, seriously thanks guys 😀 and Music
Textures: Paint.net.

Problems with the game:
-Tons of cut content (listed later)
-Story is mehish
-In my opinion, gameplay is kinda lack-luster

-the HUD
Cut Content:
-The Chariot Escapade
-The Middle Ages

Update IX: Almost There!

Posted by
Sunday, August 28th, 2016 5:11 pm

I won’t lie, a little disappointed. I cut a chunk out even though I have 3 hours. I’m just, tired I guess. The only thing I can make now is music, so lets take a look at these last tracks:

This main menu one sounds pretty nice actually xD

Alas, looks like I won’t have time to finish anything with the chariot. Its a short story, lasting less than 15 minutes. I guess it works. Time for the final playtest!

Update VIII: Almost There!

Posted by
Sunday, August 28th, 2016 12:38 pm

The contest comes to a slow end. ALMOST THERE! 7 1/2 hours! I can do it!

The graphics for the game are coming together nice, but I shouldn’t be working on polish if I haven’t even completed the story yet :/ Anyway, I’ll have time. I’m sure! Wait a minute, my song came on as I’m writing this, gotta go back to programming. Jaa neh!

Hmm :)

Whats this kappa?

And finally:

Update VII: Might actually finish!

Posted by
Sunday, August 28th, 2016 9:15 am

The animations are fixed and ready! We also have some pretty decent sound down already. Take a look:

Animation Fixes

Knife Attack:

Pistol Shoot & Inspect:

Revolver Draw, Shoot, & Inspect

SMG Draw, Shoot, & Inspect

Listing all the weapons would take too long so lets look at my favs:

Heavy Revolver Shoot & Inspect

AUG Shoot & (Bugged) Inspect

Awp Shoot, Scope, & Inspect

The most powerful weapon in the game in action: FN Scar shoot & inspect

I wonder where this goes?

Ohh. I wonder what is at the end?

Rome is about halfway done, and Egypt is finished. Gotta do Middle Ages next!

Anyway, things going pretty nicely on my end. Good luck everyone else and thanks for you time.

Update VI: Day one Done!

Just the soundtracks so far:

Update V: Not doing so well

Posted by
Saturday, August 27th, 2016 5:57 pm

Good News;

Bad News: I have only made one level, story is worse than a children’s book so far. Welp!

Also, I am experiencing a strange and infuriating problem with my animations, one that will not be fixed. I can only hope for the best at this point. I may start over (unlikely), or turn this game into something else.

Update IV: The Story Begins!

Posted by
Saturday, August 27th, 2016 1:14 pm

I’m going for a BIG story this time. I might even go into the Jam lol. I’ve already done some voice overs, and I’m going to start on the music early, right now. I’ve got all the guns and the major story in place, along with some nice gameplay. I’m Ready!

Update III: Working on the Arena now

Posted by
Saturday, August 27th, 2016 8:04 am

I tried to get some sleep but my stomach hurt really bad :( Gotta get back to the game!

I like how some of these models are turning out. Samurai btw:

I tried :(

Same with this one:

Anyway, everyone back to jammin and good luck!

Update II: Some stuff done

Posted by
Saturday, August 27th, 2016 1:28 am

My idea isn’t too great. An Arena based game, each arena gives a knew and better weapon, better arena, harder enemies from different Era’s of ancient civilizations. Going for a voxel game. Who says the player has to use ancient weapons?

Update I: Got a horrible Idea

The idea is pretty bad, but I hope to make up for it with fun gameplay and good graphics. Good luck to everyone else.

Tips for Jammers + I’m In

Tips For Ludum Dare!

I’ve been making games for almost 3 years I think, and in Ludum dare for some of that time. So I think I’ll give some tips for the upcoming ludum dare! Some of these tips might be really bad, I don’t know :( but I hope they help some people! Without further ado, good luck to everyone, and START SLAUGHTERING THOSE THEMES!

Making your Game

  1. Don’t forget sound and music! Those are important parts to any game.
  2. The Graphics don’t have to be beautiful (unless your targeting that Category)
  3. Games are meant to be fun
  4. You don’t HAVE to follow the theme. Remember there are multiple categories you will be judged in.
  5. Make sure to plan out your game first! Starting too early may lead to success, or to you scrapping your game and starting over, wasting time.
  6. Take shortcuts. After all, what actual player is going to be seeing the source code? All they will see is your game.

Outside Programming

  1. Remember to stay hydrated! Water!
  2. Don’t stay up any longer than you have too. Sleep is important!
  3. Also remember to eat! Treat yourself, but don’t use sugar/caffeine too much or you will eventually crash.
  4. Can’t Think? Stuck with a problem? Take a walk around your house, around the block, ect. Talk to someone.
  5. Remember to tell your family/friends what you will be doing over the weekend, you never know they might even support/help you

My Personal Habits:

  1. I actually have a notebook I’ve been using since my first Ludum dare thats filled with game ideas. Absolutely filled! Not just from Ludum Dare but from normal games as well. Its got little tidbits that might save me, things like, “You did this and it didn’t work last time, try this instead.” I recommend making a book like this, for ideas and clarity.
  2. I’ve been starting to try and make the game much much too early the past ludum dares. Its only worked once, so make sure to think things through and plan your game.

I did have to finish this a little earlier, I will edit it later. Good Luck, I’m in!

Patch 1.0 for L.I.G.H.T. Released!

Posted by
Saturday, May 7th, 2016 2:28 pm

The Update

I haven’t been working that much this week, the normal development cycle should continue in a couple weeks. I’m going to try to release an update every week, even if Its just small things. This update packs a lot of stuff, but most of it isn’t available to play. The Guardian Mode update may come in a couple weeks. If you’ve played Mann vs Machine in TF2 before, its going to be a lot like that. However, I’m trying to make it so that placement is important, as if it was just an onslaught of robots only the tiger mode could be used. I am considering making enemies hurt more, and nerfing regen so you are forced to switch modes frequently. I forgot to make some of the UI larger this week, thats for next. See the full changelog here: http://pastebin.com/i9mm9UgE

I’ve changed the tree textures to not look disgustingly ghastly. They look rather OK now. In the normal world mode, I’ve also added trees everywhere.

However, this week I released a completely revamped tutorial, much better than before. It teaches the player well, and introduces the forms nicely. Also, a new Music track has been added for the tutorial and (later) main menu. My good friend is making the songs for me, and he is still making more. Have a look at the tutorial here:

Preview 2Preview1

It goes on and on about the things ect. I fixed some more bugs/colliders, but its not too noticeable.

About Guardian Mode

As said before, its alot like MvM. There is currency called Quipz. Perhaps I’ll make it so only some forms can get money? Quipz are used for upgrades like extra regen, health, ect. So far I have made textures/prefabs for 3 robot enemies, the

Scout – Fast movement, low melee attack

Bruiser – Swings a heavy lightsaber that is slow, but does tons of damage

Melee – Just the normal melee fighter

I am planning to add another ranged one, perhaps a robot archer of some sort. Maybe a walker bot? I’ve been working on my pixel art and I might redo all the terrain textures.

Patch 0.8 for L.I.G.H.T. Is Out!

Posted by
Thursday, April 21st, 2016 7:25 pm

Well, releasing the first major update for my game L.I.G.H.T. Development is going to halt or stutter for a few days or even weeks, as I must concentrate HARD on school at this point. The game is not abandoned. I’ve been working pretty fast on this update for a while. Its not too content based but there is a lot of framework and fundamentals set up for the upcoming Guardian mode. Also, I”ve been working on textures for the UI, but haven’t used them yet. Part of my UI project included a level select with these textures as buttons for you to select the level. Its a little small in game though.Have some teasers:

On The Subject of Light. . .

Hi. Hola. 안녕 (I’m korean). Salve.

First off, thanks for anyone who rated my game for Ludum Dare, L.I.G.H.T., Here

This is my game.

I’m actually kind of proud of it ^_^

In my opinion, every jammer should feel like that. The past 2 jams for me were a little of a let down just because I didn’t plan properly. I didn’t for this one as well, but I managed to do a pretty bang up job, and bring it out.

This game was a blast to make. Now, I’m not gonna do the post mortem now, instead I have something to ask YOU the reader. I’ve decided that I might work on the post-compo, which I almost did but never did for previous games. I’ve been in 4 LD’s, and this is the second one I’m REALLY proud of. So lets get to work. My Post-mortem in 2-3 weeks will explain why I’m proud.

Eye’s instantly die (working)

Improper/nonexistent Physics (fixed)

“secret” passage (fixed)

some others.

Guardian mode (working, 1/2 way done)

More Maps (working on 1 new one, maybe work on generation)

Rewrite civilian AI script

Better UI/Menu

Now here’s the part where YOU come in.

I need some more inspiration. Just tell me what you think should be in my game. Thanks,
