What’s that car doing there?


Well, that`s it ! it`s been a fun weekend, lot`s of work, pizza,  epic sax music, and almost no sleep.  I think it paid off, people seem to be enjoying the game as much as we enjoyed making it , and that makes me extremely happy.

What went right : 

– A different and viable idea –

We had a pretty extense brainstorm session , where lots and lots of ideas were written and discussed. We wanted something that could be accomplished in 72 hours, and had a different take on the Villain theme. The game show idea came up and everyone tought it was fun, but we didn’t knew what to do with it, untill the game “doodle god” came in mind and our idea was complete.  The game seemed interesting and simple enough .


–  Creating awesome deaths and a funny game –

Don’t you hate it when you’re walking around,minding your own business, then suddenly you get sucked into inexistence?


We had a lot of fun creating the different deaths. We tried to keep them unexpected and I think we nailed it. Also we managed to put in some quotes and funny sentences that people would keep laughing or at least giggling during gameplay. That seemed to work well :)


– Completed on time –

We managed to do 100% of what we had planned,and that was new to me . I’ve participated in 4 or 5 game jams like this one and never managed to finish a game without having to cut something out. For the other 3 members of the team, it was their first 72 hours challenge, and they did pretty good !! I’m proud of this achievement, very proud .


What went wrong . 


– Combinations seem a bit random –


The bad part about making a nonsense game is the lack of logic. We actually had a line of tought behind each combination, but they aren’t always that clear. This may be a bit frustrating sometimes , but eventually people find all 27 ways to kill and end up enjoying it anyway.


– Too many pauses! –

I think we stopped too many times to rest, or eat something or just watch something random in the internet . Still managed to finish the game,but could have done quite some more if we didn’t stop that much. We lacked a bit of focus , but it was ok.


– Pre-loading kinda screwed us up –

The sound effects and music were the last assets added into the game. Unfortunately, they need to be preloaded before playing the game,or else there is a huge delay and it ruins the game experience . But the preloading turned out to be too long and frustrating sometimes.


– Scoring system is kind of hard to understand –

Most players didn`t seem to understand how do you get more or less points in the game . It was badly explained. But in the comments we read things like : “But in the end, winning didn’t really matter all that much. Good job, I had a blast! :D”
We still intend on improving the scoring system, and I’m glad that it didn’t ruin the experience of the game, but it was a flaw anyway!



In the end .

The game turned out fine, i’m impressed with the result we got in this LD , and I hope people enjoy it as much as we did.

Attempting a Ludum Dare is always a rewarding experience, it teaches us a lot , and gives a great opportunity to share your work with others, and see their own. This was once again an awesome experience, and we will be here on the next LD as well!

Yet another print of the game . This wheel shows up between levels and decides a small modifier for the next one. Game is pretty playable already but we want to make a really nice version before we can post it here =]

This is a screenshot of our project :  Universe’s Next Top Villain, that will decide who will be considered the greatest villain in all worlds!!

I’m developing this game with 3 other people. This one is just to give a small hint of what our game’s story is like , i’ll be posting gameplay news pretty soon!



Perdiganawe Post-Mortem

Hi! My name is Lucas , me and my brother Pedro participated in this ludum dare, it’s the third one we try ^^
We couldn’t count on programmers this time so we did all graphs and programming ourselves, so it was quite a simpler and much more buggy game than we expected, but that’s the spirit of ludum dare : challenging yourself and showing your work. ( I hope i’m right about this )
Anyway, just wanted to create a post about our work, since we didn’t do that during the weekend .

I’ll be posting a link to our Jam Entry, it’s called “Perdiganawe” , all the description in there.

In here I just wanted to congratulate everyone , i’ve been seeing some great games around here and it makes me really happy =]

also wanted to say what’s different in this post-mortem version we’re uploading :

* Our game now has fog of war!
* In the first version, if you failed a level and clicked the option below the “you failed” message, you would go to the next level! D: that does not happen anymore
* Level two is harder, it was too easy before…

Well,that’s all for now, you’ll be hearing more from us along this month.

Soul Keeper [ keep it on ]

5 hours left!! still some time before releasing the playable version of our game . Everyone’s a bit tired and we skipped college today so we could finish it xD but it’s doing pretty well .
– Our char is all done .
– Traps are about to begin the killing in about half an hour
We won’t be able to post the project as complete as we intended to  .  It will contain only one level for now , unfortunately, because our programmers are depending on the internet to work on the code together, and it’s been crashing the whole day. We’ve actually moved from one house  to another to get the internet working for us. That delayed our progress by a couple of hours :/  but what we already have should be  enough to show the game’s idea . We definitely intend to keep on working on it along this week, making more levels and turning the game into something actually challenging and fun , we’re all pretty excited about this game :]

Okey, second post about our game ! yesterday I posted something about the brainstorm and the first steps on the development ( here : http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2011/04/30/work-in-progress-3/ ) . We started at 11 AM today , now it’s almost 10 PM and we intend to work until at least 4 AM , so let’s go!!


Now to keep things up to date, here’s what we already have :

– Character animations almost complete

– One level at about 80% done

– Some traps all done

– Character controls are about 80% done


Just a little more work and we should have a playable version so you can have some fun!!

Sorry for not telling a lot about the game, we wanna keep it a surprise :b  But at least we already have  a name : Soul keeper . sounds neat, i guess

Yey !! the theme i was hoping to work with was chosen!! so happy.

Me and my team are from brazil, the theme came out at 11PM here. It is now 4:30 AM and we are going to take a nap before getting back to work.

I won’t say much about the game so far . Just as far as it is related to the theme . It is dangerous to go alone, take this pendant. Now you’ll never be alone again. That’s all .
