I haven’t posted much here yet because I’ve been wanting to get something show-able and I think I’m ready!

I think I’ve lost track of the theme though so I’m going to need to reel it back in… It does take place in one room, but I feel like that’s not enough… Is it cheating if the goal is to reach that “one room”? >-<

I’m really excited for my 9th Ludum dare~!

I’m not quite sure what tools I’ll end up using yet, beside:

– Game Maker:Studio
– Aseprite
– sfxr / bfxr
– Bosca Ceoil / FL Studio?

I’m so glad I finally finished it!
Although its not the size I was aiming for, 35 rooms is still a fair amount for such a small amount of time.

Here’s a few random rooms i picked.
Crawlspace
Crocadils
Going Batty

All it needs now is a win condition, music, and a menu!

Wowie
The game has sounds now, but still needs music.
I’ve finished the first “Path” of the world and i’m currently working on the climax of the second arc. So I’ve got 1 and a half arcs to go and then the world’ll be finished!

Work on my game is getting a tricky, I’m struggling to finish some of my own rooms >o>
Miiight have to ease up on the difficulty

Also after some contemplation I’ve decided I need a jump, even if its just 1 tile high, a jump is needed

I’m just chugging through the map at this point. Thinking of adding ‘lock and key’ puzzles to force exploration of the map and to allow me to fill space with dead ends.

By lock and key I’m not talking about literal lock and key, although I might do that.
I mean like, you need item “x” to be able to proceed past obstacle “y”.
“Bring me some cake and I’ll let you pass”, “I dropped my precious jewel down the well ;O;”, etc.

Otherwise it’ll be really tricky to string all the chunks together in sequence.

Spooders
With the addition of basic spiders, The ‘mechanics’ side of my game is complete!
Now its time for sound, many many tiles and much world building!
Although I don’t think I’ll be able to achieve a map like Jet Set Willy:
Holy cow!
I still plan to go quite large, with my current map 8 chunks by 8 chunks, or 64 rooms large, and I can always expand that later!

I can now place NPC markers on the map and it’ll create little speech bubbles when you stand on them!
It surprised me how easy it was and its all dynamic so I can add triggers in other places to change an NPC’s dialogue!


World Building!

Although the process of:
* Place tiles in Tiled
* Export map as image
* Load image into GM:S as background
* Place invisible colliders and markers over the tiles
* Play map
* Make changes in Tiled
* Repeat
Is slow and laborious, I quite like making my world!
Only a few “features” left to go before Its just tiles and world building that needs doing!
Looots of world building… >->

Assuming 75% of the map is empty tiles, that’s still 10,000~ tiles I need to place and mark…
Quite the undertaking ><
