Haven’t done much game stuff for a while, mostly doing pretty polishings and things. It all flashes and moves and pulses and blah. I wish this was a video.

Here’s my first update!
I knew I wanted to do something with a gamepad, I made some dumb shapes and saw what came together making it up as I went along.
This is Diagonex, it’s a local-multiplayer game where you try to claim more tiles than your opponent while shooting them, picking up power-ups and generally ping-ponging around the place. 😀
It supports up to 4 players but I can already see 4 players being way too ridiculous to be feasable.
I have an empty weekend for the first time in literally forever, so sure. LD o’clock again.
I write my shit in Python using my Myrmidon game framework. Probably GIMP’ing my graphics and Propellerhead’s Reason’ing my sound.
Beep boop. I’ll see people at the Manchester, UK game jam probably.
I got out some sort of game against all the odds. I didn’t quite put as much “stuff” in as I’d like to have, but there you go.
It’s a space game where you travel from planet to planet, between star systems in search of intelligent life.
So yeah I have decided to do LD this time around. I’m slowly getting somewhere.
The idea is a game inspired by the star scanning part of Spore and Star Control 2, wherein you roam around the local star systems in search of life to find out if we really are Alone. You’ll probably run out of fuel or grant money pretty quickly before then though.
Here’s the timelapse for my entry this past weekend.
I haven’t embedded it because I’ve just realised my desktop wallpaper has a huge Portal 2 spoiler. (I’M SORRY, SOPHIE!)
Unfinished but whatever. At least I submitted something.
Nice one, everyone.
Using Python, Myrmidon and Pythonutils for code, again.
Gimp and probably Graphics Gale for graphics, again.
Propellerhead’s Reason/Record for sound and music, again.
Pycatcher for timelapse, again. (I got it working.)
Same old, same old.
A few years ago I wrote a timelapse program for myself so I could take LD timelapses. I wrote something that would only output sequential images, could do picture-in-picture webcam image and ran from console only.
It broke spectacularly a long time ago.
But I just spent the last few hours fixing it ready for this weekend. So if you fancy giving it a go then you can get the source from github: https://github.com/Fiona/pycatcher
One day I’ll package it properly, I promise.
