Orthographic Cameras and 3D Games

I started off my game using an orthographic camera to follow a spaceship traversing some 3D geometry. It was disorienting but it looked cool! I think the core problem was having the camera rotate and follow a moving target as the same time. It started to get difficult to make sense of what you’re seeing!

Lesson learned:

If you want to use an orthographic camera in your 3D game be careful with camera rotations. You’d do well to ensure that any camera rotations are around a point of interest and that the point of interest is not moving whilst the camera is rotating.

Eventually  I decided  I didn’t need an orthographic camera to look cool…
