Progress so far

I decided to make a kind of defense type shooter game for LD23!

Terrible terrible alien invaders from planet-Z2 are preparing to invade your chunk of earth! It’s up to you to save your little world with your last defense turret!

The aliens will get to the invading part eventually, but now there’s time to test out your weaponry and make final configurations! So here’s a bunch of placeholder art and some editable stats:

(Mouse to aim, left click to shoot, right click to reset your stats).

The focus will be on customization of your turret and (hopefully) your floating islands defenses. Some stat configurations might work better than others against certain enemy types.

Or I’ll just make everything an asteroid if I run out of time. We shall see!

There’s still a bunch to add and change. My coding style got progressively more awful the sleepier I got so that’s gonna be fun to deal with tomorrow. But I’m pretty sure I can finish this!

I’m in!

My game concept is a puzzle game. The idea is that each level is a 15×15 grid, with some squares filled. The filled squares are alone though, so you’ll have to connect them! The connections you create between squares can only be horizontal and vertical. The challenge is that each square has a limit to how far it can go to connect with another square(how many squares it can fill to create a connection), and once connected, the connection between the squares can’t be crossed by another squares connection.

Or something like that. It’s really stretching the theme but since I’m not good at art I didn’t want to make a platformer.

Here’s a progress shot (name work in progress):

I’m still in! (about that warmup game…)

It’s ready! Well technically I dumped the initial concept and threw something else together instead, and I guess it’s not actually ready either… hum, well then it’s playable!(Sort of)

I started working on my warmup game on Monday, then stopped working for two days(…). It’s not very fun, but it definitely serves it’s purpose at making sure all the tools I’ll use work. You can get the game here:

I am now ready for Ludum Dare! Since I did this last time too, here’s a picture of my setup:

And again, good luck to everyone participating this weekend!

Warmup game progress

The LD22 warmup theme suggester gave me the theme ‘Trust’, so as my warmup game I decided to make a simple top-down perspective shooter.

Your goal in the game is to escape, but there are multiple paths to choose from, and with your limited ammunition you better choose the safest path possible! Luckily there are plenty of NPC’s around to tell you which way to go, but some of them might just want to loot your corpse once the evil green things(w.i.p) have done short work of you with overwhelming numbers. You have to place your trust in the least suspicious sounding NPC.

Or something like that anyway(it’s a warm up game, cut me some slack >.>”).

So here’s a progress shot!

Action!

Going to sleep now, I’ll have something playable out soon!

I’m in, yaaay!

This will be my second Ludum Dare, and hopefully my first LD where I can get a game out!

While thing’s didn’t go so well last time around, I did learn a lot. I also thought of a neat game concept I might use one day. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot again this time, and I’m fairly confident I’ll be able to get a game done too.

So without further ado, here’s what I’ll be using to make a game:

  • Language: C++
  • IDE: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008
  • Libraries: SFML
  • Sound: Bfxr, Audacity
  • Graphics: Paint.NET

I’ll also use Chronolapse to create a time-lapse of the game-making process.

Good luck to everyone participating!

Hey everyone

This’ll be my first Ludum Dare so I’m really exited! I don’t have much experience in programming or game development so I’m hoping this’ll be a huge learning experience.

The game I’m making is going to be a puzzle game revolving around escaping from boxes. As you ‘solve’ a box your character will fall into the next box, coming that much closer to escaping. That’s about as much as I can say since I’m still trying to work out the basic mechanics.

It’ll be coded in C++. I’ll also be making a progress-timelapse.

I’ll try to post an update to demonstrate gameplay soon!

Also, my workstation! (which really needs a second monitor).
