Marelda

I learned a lot from LD31. I made a game called Marelda. I have always loved procedurally generated content but never felt my abilities were so that I could implement that into a game in 48 hours.

I proved myself wrong.

This game draws inspiration from games like Zelda, Castlevania, and Mario. It is a procedurally generated platform game with elements of rpgs and roguelikes. This was also my first platform game. When the theme was revealed, I wasn’t completely sure what direction to go, I just knew I wanted to use the theme in a creative way.

I knew the obvious idea was to make a game that fits on one screen. But then I thought, what if the games used one continuous view that is never broken? The player would transition through different play styles and areas, but the screen never cuts from the moment the game starts. When you play the game it makes more sense. Check it out!!

Post-Mortem: I am very happy with my entry this Ludum Dare, especially for only my second one! I feel as though I made a fairly complete game in the time allotted. Let me know what you guys think :)
