Game progress!

I’m doing my terminal game where you have to defend one room from aliens. Almost all core mechanics are done expect for defending the room (I’ll just have to make that some enemies go straight for the spawn room that isn’t marked yet). Also I finally managed to do proper pathfinding! See how the game looks right now here. Hopefully everyone is also doing fine :)

I’m in again for what is probably the 6th time. Going to do compo with my own engine for the third time! Sadly this time I haven’t had the time to add anything new to it as preparation for LD. I will also have a few things to take care of tomorrow so I won’t have the whole weekend. See you in ~12 hours and good luck!

Things I will use:

  • OS: GNU/Linux
  • Language: C++11
  • Text editor: Atom
  • Custom game engine (text graphics): Terminal Play

Barely made it (again?)

Just like last time I was cutting it close. There are so many things left to do! Luckily my game turned out sort of okay. But still, I had so much fun! I can’t believe how awesome it is to use my own engine (or it could be that because I love making games for terminal). Cant wait to play all of the awesome games that just have been made (or coming soon from the jam) !

If you want to throw grenades at some alien drones (yeah I didn’t have enough time to write proper pathfinding) check out my game – Random Access Aliens!

If you want to take a look at my engine Terminal Play you can do that too! I’m trying to keep it documented. Who knows, maybe one day someone will want to use it 😛

Hello everybody, I’m in yet again! Just like last time, I will be using my own framework for text based games that I made specifically for last LD. I have a modestly sized todo list for the engine that I made last time so there is a lot of room for improvement. However this time I’m trying to document everything so if you want to try something new in LD36, you can find the framework on github.

Anyway, have fun everybody!

P.s. docs should be ready after this weekend :)

Made it to the compo! (barely)

But I’m not sure about my choice. I feel like I could have went for jam and got a way better game. But making to compo was part of the challenge :)

…Challenge?

Yes. For this Ludum dare I wanted to make something different. I challenged myself to make (my first) game Engine and make a game with it in Ludum Dare compo. Since it’s so late where I live I’m not really sure if I did OK or not.

What could have been better? Most of the blame should fall on preparation. I really started to write the engine only about 2 weeks until Ludum Dare. As a consequence I didn’t had much time to look at other things  that I wanted to (like procedural generation). Also, I didn’t had the time to port my engine to Windows – whoops!

Anyway, this Ludum Dare was really interesting for me. In fact, I liked it so much that I might continue to develop this game (and my engine) into something more polished. It would be my first thing(s) that I really finished.

Give it a try if you have a Linux machine (I’ll try to get OS X and windows Cygwin versions compiled tomorrow) and let me know what you think!

Game: System Shift

Engine: Terminal play

And now, here’s the only screenshot that I made thus far (it’s still a bit small for some reason, I’m too sleepy to find out why):

I hope you all had/have a great time participating in LD35! :)

My progress so far….

It looks like that almost everyone has some kind of a game this far into Ludum Dare and I’m sitting here with map generation:

I guess I have at least something… 😛

I think it’s my 4th Ludum Dare. I will be joining compo with these tools:

  • Language: C++
  • Engine: Terminal play (I wrote/am writing this specifically for LD)
  • Graphics: Ughh…. gedit?
  • Audio: I’m not sure if I’ll add audio support to my engine…  (haha, I know nothing about audio)

Terminal play is my first engine. Also it only supports text based games. This LD is going to be very interesting for me… I can’t wait!

Very hot place – Post mortem

My second LD compo post-mortem!

note: LD in Lithuania starts at 4am

Day 1: I’ve started to think about my game as soon as I get up (about 7 am). Unfortunately, I was not able to start developing my game till 1 pm. From then, till 2am in the evening I made most of my game features, and half of the art

Day 2: I got up at 10am, and I knew that today I had to fix a lot of bugs that I found (UI wasn’t working at all).  Somewhere about 6pm I had almost everything set up for deployment, so I went and drew extra sprites, made everything a lot more pretty. At 1:30am in the evening, I *remembered* that I do not have a sprite for player and no music/sounds at all.  Unfortunately, somehow half of the stuff broke, so it was very tense 2 and a half ours before the deadline. I finished UI at 3:59am, and that was it. Still did not have player sprite, but I didn’t want to cheat, so I used deployment(or how is it called?) hour to submit my game.

What went well:

I did make my game prettier than the last one, just as planned

I finished most of the features I wanted

What didn’t:

I didn’t had enough time to add player sprite and UI was still bit lame

All in all, this was really great LD for me, I did much better than the last

Check out my LD game(s?) here:

Anyway, I finished working on my game when it was 1 and a half minutes left till the submission hour 😛

Aaaand it’s almost 5am in Lithuania. Good night!

This might be a bit too late for this, but whatever.

This is the second LD for me, and second compo too! This time I will try to make my game a bit more pretty (and will try to not make the same mistakes I did last time).

Tools I will be using:

Engine: Unity3d (side note: I am learning to use UE4 now, but I’m not good enough yet to participate with it in a game jam)

Programming: C# with mono develop which comes with Unity

Graphics: Gimp

Audio: Audacity + Abundant music to generate the music AND bfxr for sound effects.

I really hope that this time my game will be a lot better – I have learned a lot (mostly what NOT to do) in last LD, and I’m hoping to do so again!

Have fun! :)

I would like to ask you to rate my game, and give me some feedback, as I am planning to develop this game a bit.

You can play it here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-31/?action=preview&uid=45010 (and yes, there is a port to WEB)

I have just ported my game, “Hot place” to web, so it’s even easier to play! Check it out, I think it’s pretty good: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-31/?action=preview&uid=45010

I’m going for the jam, for first time!

I will be using:

  • Unity3d (I think this is going to be one of the last game(if not the last) with Unity from me)
  • Blender
  • Gimp (or if I won’t find out how to use it I am going to use just paint :D)
  • bfxr.net for sounds
  • I’m not sure how I will make music yet

And I will be probably streaming on Twitch, but I’m not sure.

Have fun and good luck!
