Shark Hunt is done!

Posted by
Sunday, November 3rd, 2013 4:17 pm

Even though this was a mini-LD, this is definitely my best game so far! I proudly present my work:

In Shark Hunt, you are a shark who hunts fish. You must avoid starving, while avoiding extinction by the fishermen who hunt fish and sharks with harpoons! You can slow the extinction by tearing apart the boats, which your shark comrades will help you with.

At the end you get some stats, a score, and a rank. Play it and let me know what you get!ย http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/minild-46/?action=preview&uid=15753

0h Jam Timelapse

I participated in the 0h jam by making a game where you collect blue squares while avoiding red rectangles.

Here is the timelapse:ย 0h Jam Timelapse

I’m going to go catch up on sleep now so that I can finish my Shark game! Night ๐Ÿ˜€

Progress has been made

There are still a lot of things left to do, like adding a water effect (the shark is floating above the sea floor on a cushion ย of air right now!), but it’s pretty great so far ๐Ÿ˜€

Also, I should probably add a goal and fix his tail in the movement animations ๐Ÿ˜›

Hi everyone,

Recently I decided to start learning LWJGL/OpenGL. As my first project, I decided to write Pong in Java and share it with you guys! It wasn’t meant to be a big-ish project, so the code is a little different than what I normally do. Here is a screeny ๐Ÿ˜€ (the AI was creaming me, I had it on max difficulty!)

Downloads: Windowsย |ย Macย | Linux | Source

Controls: Mouse moves the player, space opens options (select-able using arrow keys), ESC quits the game.

State of War is complete!

That was an awesome MiniLD! I wanted to do a space game for ages! You can play it here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/minild-42/?action=preview&uid=15753

Playing Around

I decided to play with some new features I’m adding, ended up with this:

My game took a bit of a plot twist; now, the goal is to destroy the Earth. I have a second mini-earth in order to test scaling. He even shoots lasers and has a miniature explosion animation! ๐Ÿ˜€

You are here. If you don’t do something fast, it will be destroyed.

You’ll probably control some sort of a ship with a hyper-improbability drive or whatever it is, against Vogons. Yeah. ๐Ÿ˜€

Then again, I might change to do something more innovative. We’ll see.

Post Mortem!

Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted all of my timelapse screenshots. So, no pictures :( This will be brief.

What went well:
– I did music within the first few hours, so that was out of the way.
– I did sounds every single time I made a new feature that could benefit from sound.
– Paint.NET worked great as a level editor!

What went badly:
– I’m not any sort of composer, and I tried to do a complex musical piece. I’ll keep it a bit more simple next time!
– Something went wrong with my input grab methods. They seem to glitch out occasionally, locking you out from controls and sending you into lava.
– Wacky controls. I always struggle with getting these right.
– I think I spent way too much time playing around with the initial engine! It was just so fun D:

My Favorite Game So Far

Space Jellyfish.

Please Space Jellyfish if you haven’t Space Jellyfished yet.

Not my game. Space.

Things are picking up. I need to make the boss soon!

“Yes, it worked” refers to the fact that the level actually changed. That was my placeholder “level 2” that I made in a minute. The enemies chase you and wander in a straight line, occasionally changing direction.

Progress is being made!

So I finally got the basics down: Input, loading images, loading maps, entities. Time to add some enemies, block contrast, better art, sound, block collision…. ๐Ÿ˜€

Here is the town so far, with all of the villagers exterminated shortly before taking this photo. Rest assured, there are villagers!
