What went right

Pixels! I love pixels, I first started to animate the characters in flash, but somehow the animations went berserk and I decided to go with pixels instead. They turned out nice. I imported pngs and animated them in flash.

Tiled. An open source tile editor I’ve used before. Implementation if the fileformat went smoothly and the editor is pretty easy to handle although it has it’s quirks. If you download Tiles you can modify the game by opening data/map_0.tmx (make sure to set Tiled to save xml files and not binary).

Mapsize. I made a map that is 100 x 100 tiles. I was afraid that it would slow the game down but I think it has not. the size did make the theme more applyable.

Flash Develop. My choice of IDE for coding flash applications/games. It aids you oodles in code-generation, hints and snippets.

What went wrong

Discovery theme. I planned for key/lock gameplay but only managed secrets and crate-opening as discovery-elements. Although there is one weapon pickup.

Music. I don’t know how so it’s usually left out in my games.

Other notes

I forgot to add the 3rd party librarys in my source-dist. But fear not here they are.

I have base thing working, 2d tilemap, using Tiled as editor, animated characters, although these are just placeholders. Working collision&response, Sound, Camera, Input and you can shoot the Thugs! What about that! I also managed to purcase a x-mas-tree and play some Black-OPS today!

Click to play. WSAD or Arrows. Left Mouse Button to throw a rock. There is no way to win, only loose.

I’m not completing this tonight. I’ve felt uninspired with this game. Perhaps if the player is able to pick up guns it will be more fun. Yeah. I’ll think about it.

MafiaRevenge Throw a stone or two

MafiaRevenge is playable. Throw a stone by clicking.

Box2d Physics are up. You can move around with arrows or WSAD. Click to throw a stone.

Next task: AI for the Mafia. Make them move and kill each other.

Got just up and got totally stumped by the theme as usual. Some of my ideas so far:

Hack n slash
Vänd två maffiagäng mot varann.
Match 3 combo med kick em up. fienden kastar man på andra fiender, och
eller ner på spelplanen.
  • Shmup
  • Hack n slash
  • Turn two mafia gangs against eachother.
  • Match 3 & kick em up. You throw enemies on other enemies or down on the board.

Also, Im not going to post any food pics 😉

IndustrySim Sketch

Industry sim.

You have a small house, we can call it a factory. You need to eat. Somewhere to sleep.


You find an order of 1000 nailes. You have taken a loan of $500 from the bank with 8%

interest. You need to buy: Material (Iron), Tools (Hammer, Anvil, Tongs), Fireplace &

Energy (coal). You hire a worker (An old chap). Tell the worker to make nailes. It goes

slow, but steady forward.

I can simplify it a bit: You need, energy, material & labour.

There you have it. Fail! I blame it on the physics! I got myself in a bunch of problems with creating resizable sticks. And also creating joints on those sticks. It is somewhat solved but not bug free. I might look in to it some day. Link to unfinished game.

Space – Toggle Edit/Game mode

S – Toggle Select and Create Sticks

L – Toggle Log

Mouse – Click n Drag, in game and in editor

It was fun anyway!

This is a 2d physics puzzle game. The goal is to get off the island. Use whatever junk there is on the island. Build a trebuchet and launch yourself into oblivion! Anyway thats the vision, I hope to complete half of that…

Exploration by car, steering with a sheet of paper

I’m thinking of using a web cam and a sheet of paper to control a car. The game will be created in flash. You will need a web cam and a printer to print a pattern to use for steering and throttling. I did a quick survey in the IRC channel. 4/5 did own a web cam. 2/4 also can print = 40% of all can run my game. That is good enough I think. As for game play, drive around stuff. Find cool places to drive at? Dunno yet. I’m more interested in getting a car running with my web cam :)
