Not in time, but still in time

While there were 15 seconds left on the Compo-clock, the Compo-radiobutton was greyed out, so I couldn’t submit my game for the compo.

So I submitted it for the jam, even while I sufficed for the Compo rules.

I sent Mike a tweet, and within 5 minutes he¬†responded that I forgot to click all the buttons. Let’s just say I’m really tired ūüėČ

I completed my first Ludum Dare!

So I¬†submitted my game! I really like my product, and I might even go on with it this month to add more gameplay and polish it up.¬†I’m feeling pretty good after two days of non stop programming and creating visual assets. Especially the visuals took a lot of time, I guess 50% of all the time I spent on this game.

 

So, my game!!!

It is called The Fast and the Flatulent!

You are a guy standing in a video arcade, playing a racegame. But while you are playing¬†you get distracted by a couple of things. You’ll have to fart in time to avoid pooping your pants, and there is a guy who gets in front of your screen!

You control your left hand with your ASD-keys, and your right hand with your mouse.

I really wanted to export it for Web, but for some reason it doesn’t work. It only shows a white square :(. So if anybody knows how to fix this, please let me know.

Working hard or hardly working?

Well I did a lot of stuff today, but did I really progress? I made a ton of visual assets, and I made some audio for the game. But there is no working gameplay yet! It’s 06:30 a.m. so i’m gonna get some sleep and make it a real functioning game tomorrow. I hope…

I redid the hands, and made some photographs of my own arms as reference. One default sprite, one for hovering over the stick, and one while grabbing the stick.

So i’ve got 20 hours to sleep, eat and make this somewhat¬†playable.

checklist & concept

So I woke up this morning without new ideas, so I decided to stick with my first concept.

You play as a guy in a video arcade, who is playing a simple racing game. You control his hands, the ASD-keys are your left hand fingers, the mouse controls his right arm.concept-art

While you are playing the racing game you’ll have to fart, or smash the arcadegame because it hangs.

The game is more about the distractions while playing the racing game.

I’ve made some concept art, and i’ll probably use the concept art as the final visual assets¬†because it’s easy to implement¬†as sprites in Unity3D. It also fits the theme of a greasy filthy guy in a¬†video arcade.

 

I’ve also made a checklist that will also be my bug list.

Now it’s time to start Unity3D and see how much I can get working in one day and 12 hours.planning

First concepts

The theme is announced, and I wrote down¬†the ideas that immediately popped up in my head. It’s 04:00 a.m. and i’m going to sleep with my notebook on my nightstand so I can write down any inspiration.

Preparations

's-Hertogenbosch by Night

¬†While the streets of the beautiful dutch city ‘s-Hertogenbosch are relatively empty because everyone is celebrating “Sinterklaas“, I am preparing myself for my first Ludum Dare! I bought some crappy food ¬†(pizza, noodles, spring rolls etc), and some beers to make the wait until 03:00 a.m. (UTC +1) a little easier.

  • wait until 03:00 a.m to see what the theme is,¬†
  • make up 5 or so concepts fitting the theme, and make a rough planning
  • go to bed so I can start fresh tomorrow morning
