Finding partners to work with

Hey dudes and dudedinas!

I would like to know, where you find your partners to work with? Is there a special place or website, which is only dedicated for teaming up with people? It looks like a lot of people are searching for partners to join the jam, instead of living the life of a lone wolf. And if there isn’t any place, how about creating one? Like an extra steam group only for this purpose to keep the main group clean? I imagine one with multiple sub-forums like “Looking for a team” and “Team looking for more”. Or would it be possible to add this sub-forums to the main group?
These are just thoughts and ideas and I dont want to mess anything up.

So, how do you think about this thoughts, especially PoV? Or are you even planning such a feature for the new website?

2Metersbeneath – it’s done and I’m proud

I finally got my internet back, yehaw! Damn you internetprovider.

Jesus! Not only have I entered and end my first Ludum Dare, I also created my very first game!
This is so exciting! I never thought that I will finish such a “big” project like a game, but I actually did!.

And I’m totally in love with my unknown pixelart “skills”. :>
Hayoo, okay enough from my exhilaration.

What went right

  • the sprite stuff went out better then estimated, although they took the most time
  • all of my coding ideas work, most of them are totally easy to reuse
  • I’ve overcome all obstacles and problems, without becoming demotivated
  • I’ve earned so much experience AND motivation, that’s really gold!

What went wrong

  • I started coding without any idea of the actual gameplay, that’s why this is a tamagotchi (engine, game, somewhat)
  • I should prepare myself a little bit more, especially the thing with soundeffects
  • the HUD. Seriously, that’s more kind of a command line then a HUD

Thanks for all the interesting posts about your games, LD community. It such a nice competition.
Now my task ist to play and rate aaaaaaall the gaaaaames!

2metersbeneath: End of day 1

Sup’ guys!

I’ve decided to stop working for today.  This is how 2metersbeneath looks like at the moment:

What I’ve done today:

  • getting a raw idea of the gameplay
  • drawing the whole tileset, a chair and two character spritesets (moving, idling)
  • character movement (it’s automatic, like a kind of tamagotchi, easy to copy for some ambient critters at the surface)
  • some weird kind of a HUD (yup, the stuff at the bottom left corner)

At the moment, I’m making some thoughts about the gameplay, because I came to a point, where this influents the further dev progress. Jesus! But I really like my very first “game”. For me, it’s some kind of a proof that I actually CAN work on a game, when I really want. But enough from me and my german dumbtalk.

Cee ya tomorrow! :)

2 Meters Beneath – First level design

So far so good.
After 2 hours of work i’ve nearly finished the level design for my Vaultsims. I’m not really that satisfied but hey, it’s my very very first game at all! The next step is to draw the lone vault inhabitant and the first ambient critters. Theeeen it’s time to implement some “busy” animations and behaviours, just to make the game a little bit more living.

For now I feel like I’m good in time, even with 10 hours deficit.

I just woke up!

Okaaaaay folks, here we go. So i’ve lost 10 hours to the GMT +1. But that doesn’t matter at all, if I run out of time, I will join the Jam, but let’s give it a try.
So, the theme is “under the surface”? The very first though that came up was “omg jesus fallout vault!”. And the second one was “but I want to make some kind of a minimalistic Sims”. I think you allready got my message: I will try to code a vault sims, of course in pixel style due to not existing pro art skills.

For now I dont have any gamemechanic ideas but I will see what the future brings. I even don’t know, if the player will control one or more npcs directly or if the player just drop food, drinks, furniture etc and watch what happens. I think I prefer the last one, because then I have to code some really nice AI. Hooray!

Sorry for the long post, but I didnt have time to write a short one.

Cheers from Germany! :)

Hoi ladies!

I`m very excited about LD #29 because it will be my first LD at all and bla bla bla. Okay to be honest, only perhaps because it conflicts with my schooltime. In german time, it would start at 3 O’clock in the morning (Saturday) and end on Monday. So I have three options:

1: Joining the LD Jam and make my spain presentation besides. This really depends on the winning theme and the complexity. If I choose this option, Game Maker Studio will be my weapon of choice mainly because it does all the annoying stuff for me like creating classes, ticks synchronisation and so on.

2: Workin on my sprite generator parallel to the LD just to get into the feeling of doing something more ore less usefull, maybe I can even stream this. It’s nothing big but will eventually help some people for their temporary art (or maybe, their final?) for future LDs. It’s written complete in PHP and all sprites generated with it are completely free to use, maybe even for commercial use. For now I only have some fruits/vegetables and potions generation, but let’s see what the future brings. Some freaky examples (32*32):

fvsprite1 fvsprite2 fvsprite3

3: Doing nothing and sleep 48 hours straight to find my inner self. I’m so funny. Haha… no.

So all in all I hope I will create something which doesn’t get lost in the eternal void of the windows recycler.

See ya maybe in some days! :)
