Cube Miner is done! Submitted!

I’ve added lots to it, loads of research projects, tweaked things quite a bit to make it a bit more difficult, fixed a few bugs (though there’s probably still a fair share there) added more buildings, and changed the spawners a bit (2 different types now).

Also quickly made some music on my guitar for the game, I’m quite pleased with it! 😀 and a small Help/Tutorial window!

It has random events in and more research which can build buildings and … wait for it … evolve your mine and the cube industry!

Ok, so I’ve made some progress now, events are in the very early stages, they occur randomly, can have prerequisite events and random duration and can be repeatable or one offs. One problem is that for some reason they keep firing even though I apparently have a check against that, so the effect of that is…

Well, lots of progress with Cube Miner, I have implemented finace and human resources window, where you can check you money and hire new miners (with a skill for Cubes/s) as well as projected profits and other stuff like that. Deciding now whether to look at personalities of miners, or research, probably research at this moment in time.

Also, added textures and a little bit of terrain to make it look a little better:

I’ve just managed to finish the very basic spawning method for mined cubes in my Cube Miner game! currently you just have several invisible miners throwing there cubes into the machine and you see them all come out! take a look:

Cube Miner: The Evolution of Cubindustry

Hello people!

I am Tom and this is my first ludum dare but not my first games jam, I’ve been in three global games jams and worked as a team in them. This time I’m on my own.

Ok, for the theme, evolution, I am going to do a game on evolving industry, mining in particular, cube mining….

You start off as a simple single cube miner and from there you evolve! lets see how far I get with this, but I at least want to evolve from one manual labour method to full on factory methods. The player will make many key decisions and respond to events which will ultimately evolve your mining operation one way or another.

The reasons for this choice:

  • I love management games that react to the players input
  • I want stories to be made in the players head from this, about there own little cube mining adventure
  • I want to demonstrate how industry has evolved, from a single person with rock chipping out materials to massive factories mining up the earth
  • Cubes are easy to model XD

The graphics won’t be amazing, a lot of it will be text, in fact I’m debating on whether to do graphics much at all (static scenes kind of thing) just because I am no artist.

I will be using Unity3D, it’s my tool of choice and a brilliantly flexible one at that.
