Seems like I love extremes. This is my third Ludum Dare. Both past times I did my games according to Compo rules – however, 48 hours was turning out to be too little and consequently they ended up as Jam submissions.

This time I slacked off for the entire weekend and started working 6 hours before Compo ended – and guess what? I did it!

My first Ludum Dare Compo entry – AvsL!

A game for two players, where all’s fair!

Groundmole Antonio wants to grow so high that he can take over the world!
Gardener Louis notices the danger and tries to thwart the evil groundmole plans!

In order to win, it is recommended to do whatever it takes to keep the second player away from the keyboard – just keep it legal, please! 😀

Save the world!

Play AvsL with someone!

PS. Instead of my usual C with Allegro 5, this game uses JavaScript with fun and fresh library by Sos Sosowski – allegro.js 😀

Radio Edit (LD32)
Tickle Monster vs Suits (LD33)
Flappy Monster (joke entry, LD33)

With Radio Edit being, well, about audio, it’s no surprise that it got better score than Tickle Monster in that category. I’m surprised about “Theme” though – I’d think that tickle monster in “you are the monster” is nicer twist on the theme than a guitar in “unconventional weapon”. Other than those two, every category improved a bit (although I think Radio Edit was better in terms of fun, especially when it comes to replayability, but I guess first impression says otherwise and it got reflected on the score). Plus #31 in humor thanks to Flappy Monster sets a new personal record 😀

Objective for LD34: finally manage to finish my Compo game in time for Compo, instead of posting it in Jam 😛

Tremendous Corporation – The Secret (Radio Edit)

Posted by (twitter: @dos1)
Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 11:50 am

So our little single… err, I mean, game from Global Game Jam 2015, which we kept polishing and launched a Steam Greenlight campaign for, just got its first organic video review! :)

“One of the funniest games I ever saw on Greenlight!”

The review of The Secret of Tremendous Corporation

The Secret of Tremendous Corporation is a short point-and-click adventure game about games, secrets and stuff. Max Burton, a passionate young gamedev wannabe, is starting his first day as an intern in Tremendous Corporation – the only video game company left out there. How so? Basically, Tremendous Corp. abused copyright and patent laws and eventually became a monopolist. Now it’s only producing uninspiring, yet highly profitable freemium games and any independent and more ambitious game development outside of the company is simply outlawed.

The teaser trailer of The Secret of Tremendous Corporation

At first, Max is happy to finally get a chance to do what he dreamed about for so long – making games. However, it soon becomes clear to him that not everyone is happy with current situation on the market and that Tremendous Corporation has made some enemies, who might seem a bit crazy, but also a bit reasonable… At the end, instead of starting a peaceful job as a coffee-maker… err, I mean, intern, Max finds himself a task worth a mighty gamedev such as himself – saving the game industry!

Vote for The Secret of Tremendous Corporation on Steam Greenlight!

PS. The Secret of Tremendous Corporation will be free (both as beer and as speech!), but it’s not released yet. However, if you make game reviews like the one embedded on top of this post and you’re interested in this game, shoot on Twitter at @dos1 – we’ll be glad to let you see our current build of the game!

Rock their socks off!

The review of Radio Edit

Aside of Max Burton saving the game industry, there’s also my entry for this Ludum Dare called Radio Edit, which also got a very nice video review today. It’s so great to see people playing your games and actually enjoy it! Makes you feel like your job here is done, and you want to fly away into the sunset while your gamedev superhero cape is majestically fluttering in the wind, to make a glorious return later with another game that brings smile on people faces.

Also, this video is particularly remarkable for one reason – it perfectly shows the learning curve of the game. Some people complain that this game is too hard – sure, it seems too hard when you play it for 3 minutes as a yet another Ludum Dare entry so you can rate it and be more cool. However, it was made as a skill based, yet still somehow causal game, where you can easily develop the needed skill when you play it over and over during your coffee breaks. While of course I already see some room for improvements and I’ll probably get to work on them after LD, this guy already got it perfectly in this video, which makes me super super happy!

A little proof it’s not that hard :) Can you beat me?

Vote for Radio Edit on Ludum Dare 32!

So I made this amazing GIF to celebrate a small update for Radio Edit I just released!

What’s updated? In gameplay, absolutely nothing! (except “play solo” changed to “play a solo”). However, there are now also DEB and RPM packages for GNU/Linux, installer file for Windows, fixes for stuff like memleaks and it should be able to handle more badguys generated at the same time now thanks to optimized code (however, people say that it’s hard and that they don’t last too long, so probably that wasn’t an issue anyway :P). Also, Windows port got merged into the main codebase and is less hacky now. Now let’s see if I’ll be able to get Mac OS X build as well!

So my “Radio Edit” just got its Windows release, joining the GNU/Linux one, for all you not-true-OS-enlightened folks to enjoy! 😉

Technically it could be a Compo entry, if only I didn’t sleep over half of Saturday 😉 At the end managed to do something more than the (soon to be) award-winning awesome Main Menu. I still think “main menu” should be a separate voting category!

Am I doing it right?

The Compo ends in one hour. Good that I already have my glorious main menu with various animated idle states working!

There totally should be a “Main menu” voting category. Organizers didn’t think about it though, so I guess I have to Jam it instead 😉
