The chaos, the bullet hell, the SWARMED

Hello there. This is my second time joining Ludum Dare and I have just barely made it in time to submit my game. I call it “Swarmed”, and it is a top-down view shooter. The game will turn into a bullet hell not long after you enter it. Please play and leave feedback so that I can continue to improve it after the Jam.

Reflection on Fishing On The Ice

Hello, everyone! This is my first time to join Ludum Dare and this is my game for the Jam – Fishing On The Ice. I made this game on my own and intended to finish it within 48 hours and submit to the Compo, but unfortunately failed the challenge, which is sort of a pity, but I do like and enjoyed Ludum Dare because it is a good experience, especially for someone like me who’s super new to game making. Although the event only last for 72 hours, it actually pushed me to learn some new stuff, which is crazy… but feels amazing, too. And, of course, I’ve still got a lot of things to learn.

The language I used is ActionScript 3, which I have some experience with. And the text editor I use is FlashDevelop, which is quite handy. And I also used the flixel library because it has some pretty nice features, though the art style of the game is not the pixelated kind.

As for the past two days, I got busy preparing for my midterm exams, so I didn’t worry about the game too much once I finished it. And I should admit that this game kind of lacks potential for further development. After all, in the first place, I designed it to aim to be finished in a short time and provide a short gaming experience to players. However, last night, I unintentionally came back and checked my game, and I found that there were comments, which was a little bit out of my expectation because I do think I really rushed to finish it. The suggestions in the comments are very good. I appreciate very much and really got inspired by them! So, many thanks to people who kindly give their suggestions! Perhaps I will make some minor updates to the game soon or later.

I think that there’s some feature in the game that is a bit hard to discover. I guess my game’s introduction is not very well done… Some important things are left to players to discover. For example, the fishing pole is actually a torpedo defense weapon! You can just fish torpedo with it! After fishing a torpedo, just hold it in water for a while, and it will explode. You can pull it up if you want, and let it blow up right in front of your face. There is very little penalty for doing that.
