About DaVince (twitter: @DaVince21)

I make games sometimes. And music. I'm pretty into old-style stuff, or unique-looking stuff, or weird stuff, and really good games that somehow seem to have not been noticed by the general public. And now I want to go and give the Dare a shot.

I had an awesome idea but it looks like it’ll take me more than 48 hours to complete, plus I haven’t been feeling too great anyway. So I’m not going to make it for the compo. Ah well.

Have this unfinished Wind Waker-style song (.it source) I was making for the compo.

You’re free to do whatever you like with it (Public Domain). The samples used are from free sample packs made by the Philharmonia and Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra.

Bit late, but in.

The competition was already going for 8 hours once I joined.

The theme initially seemed rather boring to me, but thinking about it I had plenty of ideas and now I’m on my way to create something that is hopefully going to be really fun (and finished in time!).

I don’t do graphics much so it’s not going to look superb, but hey. Acceptable enough, I think.

Yeah, probably!

December 5-8? Sure! It’ll be my second time joining an LD.

And it’ll be my first time trying to use Haxepunk/OpenFL to make a game. It’ll be good practice. Haxepunk looks super useful for making cross-platform games.

I want to join the next LD…

…but it might come out inconveniently when it comes to school. We’ll see. Last time (my first time) was a lot of fun, after all.

Here’s to hoping it will be possible. I’ve got some possible ideas already. I might also try using a different game engine this time (been interested in LOVE, kind of…). That’ll add a nice challenge.

Other tools: GIMP for pixels, OpenMPT for tunes. Maybe I’ll pull out my NDS and use the nice drawing homebrew (Colors!) for drawn pictures or stuff.

Hoooly crap. Just in time.

…Just in time for me to learn there’s also a “submission hour”, that is! Well, I made the last changes only six minutes before the 48 hours ended, anyway. 😛

Download here.

A game of switching between two worlds. The real world, and the shadow world.

Enter our main protagonist, Old Man:

Yes, Old Man is his name.

…whose world will soon be overtaken by a dark creature. It happens every 10 seconds.

He's sort of a hyrbid between a ninja and a hacker.

He’s sort of a hyrbid between a ninja and a hacker.

He won’t know what hit him.

So… *Ahem* Download here! Hope you enjoy the game. 😀

Edit: aw, Radnen gave me a shout-out. Lemme return the favour! (His game is difficult!)

Now that I’ve actually got most of the groundwork done, I can finally start designing the levels! Let’s hope the puzzles and platforming sections don’t turn out shitty because I took so long polishing up the rest…

Sweet, sweet progress.

The old man can move and jump (kinda; he’s old after all!). The ninja hacker can’t do anything yet. The middle pic is the static you see when the game is transitioning between worlds (every 10 seconds).

And these screens might show how they’re related to one another.

The world, and the gameplay, switch every 10 seconds.

Mwah hah!

Five hours into the compo, I am finally ready to… begin?

This compo started at 3am for me. I thought, “screw that, I need my sleep!” So then I had trouble falling asleep, anticipating Ludum Dare. But finally, it has started! And I already know exactly what I’m going to do. :)

Good luck to everyone making their game or thinking up ideas right now!

I just realized something…

“Ludum Dare”… Do you pronounce that as “Let ’em dare”? Or am I completely off the mark here? 😛

Even though I’ve made games in the past, I’m new to this entire Ludum Dare thing. So I figured, why not give it a shot? :) I’ll be making a game with the Sphere game engine, which is a 2D JavaScript-based game engine. (But not in a browser.)

I’m pretty into old-style stuff (“retro” I suppose :P), or unique-looking stuff, or weird stuff, and good underdogs that don’t seem to have been noticed by many people.

So… Hi! Looking forward to making something fun and enjoying the many, many entries. The themes seem promising so far!
