Switchin’ Tools Mate!

I’ve decided I’m most likely making a 2D game this weekend, so I’ve come to the conclusion that I will use Java + Slick2D with Eclipse. I realize that that’s what I used last time, and failed measurably. I recently discovered about hot-code replace in eclipse, so that excites me. I just have to remember to keep things SUPER SIMPLE. I’m fairly confident with my Java and Slick2D skills so it should be pretty fun.

Considering changing tools

I successful made a warm-up game using Unity3d, but I’ve recently discovered how terrible my 3D modeling skills are, and how much better my pixel art skills are. So I’m considering changing my tool from Unity3D to Construct. I will let you know once I’ve made the final decision.

Temple of Boxtopia is done!

Play the game.
I finished my warmup game! It’s pretty simple. I mean really simple, but the thing that matters is I finished it. The Theme was trickster, and the last tiny puzzle you do tricks you a little, so I guess that counts. You can watch most of the development on justin.tv.

You can watch my development of Temple of Boxtopia on justin.tv:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

Stay tooned to my justin.tv channel for the Ludum Dare Compo stream this Friday at 6pm Pre-coding and 7:00pm pst for the beginning of the codings!

I’m making a game this weekend for the Warm up before Ludum Dare 22!
I’m using Unity and C# and photoshop for graphics. The game is kind of a mystery game. You have to escape your confined area by doing puzzles. Here’s my current progress and a few screenshots!

+ Movement with WASD and look using the arrow keys. DONE!
+ Picking up physical objects DONE!
+ Doors and opening them. DONE!
– Weight sensor activators (not done)
– Signs for communicating with the player (not done)
– Other puzzles (no idea yet)

Ludum Dare 22: I’m in!

Four weeks! It’s exciting! Last year I didn’t finish my project. I tried desperately but it was a no go. This year I plan really finishing a game. REALLY! No exceptions here, it’s set in stone.
I plan on using Unity3D, Boo Scripting, C# (aka mono), Photoshop and/or Blender for this Ludum Dare. I’m not the best at making 3D graphics, but I’ve made a pretty awesome sword in the past. Who knows.
Other stuff
Like last Ludum Dare, I will stream my process, similarly to @notch. My live stream will consist of a pre-dare party, where I will play indie games until the countdown hits zero and the theme is unveiled, stay tuned to this blog for more info. I will be streaming awesome music, interacting with the chat and lots of frustrations!

Pre-pre Ludum Dare
Before I even start thinking about what kind of game I’m making, I need to brush up on my Unity3D skills. I need to learn how to handle

  • Collisions
  • Sound
  • Material blending modes

I think that’s about it! See yah on the battlefield! I’ll post more information about the stream provider and times closer to the 16th. DARE!

Hello Ludum Dare! I failed you last time. But this is a new challenge, with a bigger time span and new motivation! I have no idea what the game will be, but it WILL be finished this time. And I will make $1. That’s final.

Also, I recommend listening to the Binding Of Isaac soundtrack as you code. It’s quite soothing.

I didn’t give up!

I didn’t make the deadline, but I’m still working on the game I started. Here’s a quick screenshot.
I’ll try to finish it before the Jam deadline, but I doubt it 😐

I give up :(

Yeah its true, I chose too complex of an idea, and I don’t think i have the skills to code a FULL game. The farthest I got was jumping and moving. I failed you Ludum gods

Progress, i guess….

The Dwarf Thedomes, son of Gremolien is sentanced to death for treason in the kingdom of Agothon. At the execution, Thedo ESCAPES! at the last second and must make his escape and defeat the evil executioner.
