The Spy – Will you remain undetected?

This was my first Ludum Dare, and I have to say it’s a great community! It’s awesome to get so much feedback, thanks! =)

The theme caught my by surprise, and I set out to make a stealth game.┬áBut how to make several levels when the theme is “Entire Game on One Screen?”

My answer was to change the level around the player, when you’re “not looking”! Since it’s a stealth game, you never see the entire map. So with a sleight of hand, everything changes without you noticing (“Deja Vu”?)

Quite a challenge! I’d never expected so much difficult vector math involved in something like this. But visibility checks and pathfinding in a vector-world was not that easy to get working. I spent a lot of time on technical issues of the AI and user interface.

Some of you reported that the game was too difficult or that the guards were not easy to predict. I guess everyone has different expectations of when a guard would detect a player. I would love to get more feedback on this particular game mechanic from you guys. Do you think it’s too hard? Do you like the “detection” mechanic? Are the guards too smart? Too dumb?
