Not great, but as done as I feel like

I’ve submitted my game.

I probably could have done something much better if I’d actually put time and effort into it, but I got something in before the end of the compo with first Ludum Dare game, so I don’t really care that it’s just an asteroids clone.

Maybe next time I’ll actually focus on the event instead of carrying out previous commitments, visiting friends uninvolved with the event, and reading Discworld novels. 😛

Psuedorandom update because I can

Well, I had over 15 hours break, but I also have a bit of an Asteroids game happening. New asteroids come in every 10 seconds.
This wasn’t my initial idea, but it is much easier to code.

10 seconds was the only category I didn’t really want, and one of the few I -1ed. Still, it kinda fits.

10sec asteroids screen

Still need sounds, health/shields indicator, and a start screen.

If I do Ludum Dare next time, I think I might like to start with a bit more of an engine, it’ll let me do something more complicated or original because I wouldn’t be so worried about time. Improving my drawing skills could be a good idea too.
And, of course, actually having nothing else during the time of the event, if possible. Other commitments really do detract from actually making a game.

First Ludum Dare

This is going to be my first Ludum Dare, although I’m not sure I’ll actually complete a game 😛

I’ll be using HTML5/JavaScript, most likely a Canvas game. Graphics likely to be made with Paint, Gimp, and Inkscape.

I’m likely to start with two javascript files I have already created, a javascript file of some functions and constants I use a lot, and a simple loader for images and sounds.
I’ve got other code I might like to use that wouldn’t be feasible to create during the competition/jam, but I figure I’ll try and keep things simple this time around and live without it.

Anyway, link to where my initial stuff is: http://ludumdare.crisissdk.com/27/initial/

If I have sounds, I’ll probably make them with sfxr or one of it’s alterations. I might use other pre-existing generators as well, depending on what kind of game I end up making, and I’m pretty sure they’ll come under publicly available stuff, being publicly available.

Well, a decent sized first post, and assuming I don’t have to do something else important during it I should have a game at the end.
