Although this is my 3rd ludum dare, this is the first time im entering the main competition instead of the jam. I know for the main compo, I need to include my source but whats the best way to do this. Im running game maker so my source is a gmk file if that helps whatsoever.

Well then!

OK. first things first, thanks god thats over

i thought participating in the last ludum dare had prepared me for this one. wrong!

working on my own this time i thought i would enter the main competition instead of the jam. but i couldnt think of an idea to save my life. by the time i had an idea, submission for the main comp had already ended (yeah, it took me that long). technically i still didnt come up with an idea. i was routing through some old files when i found an unfinished game of mine back from when i first started programming. so i decided to make that my game and got to work on rewriting it from scratch. only took me 6 or 7 hours but like i said, the main comp had already finished. plus when it came to submitting, things got worse. my internet went out and when it came back on i realized id forgotten how to find my dropbox files online. i got my entry in but only just. all in all, a very stressful ludum dare. but all the same, good luck to everyone and may the best game (probably not mine then) win

now im going to go sleep and try to stop my erratic heartbeat

Back again!

So the last ludum dare back in december was my first time participating and although i did pretty badly, i loved every minute.

So im going to compete again. im gonna put more effort into it and not goof off for most of the time. good luck to everyone and may we all do well.

ps.  should probably mention im entering the jam, not the main compotition

I done goofed!

i uploaded my entry but i can already tell ive done badly. The first 24 hours were spent cathing up on missed sleep and thinking of ideas. The 2nd 24 hours were a good friends birthday which couldnt be avoided. So all the actual making took place in the last 24 hours. And i greatly underestimated the time i needed to do what i had planned.

What i did right:

1. i got a steady plan made and did some design sketches and prioritized what needed doing

2. i told the other members of my group exactly what their roles were and what i needed from them

What i got wrong:

1. underestimated the time it would take to complete my project, especially bug fixes

2. i assumed i had time to do things i considered more important

3. i took part when i should have known things had already been planned for the competition date

fortunately though, i feel this has been a successful first ludum dare for me. my entry isnt great but i know now what to expect from the dare and have gained experience from taking part. next time i will aim to come up with a solid idea quicker and not let myself get distracted as much. and at the very least i got a cool new wallpaper out of it, courtesy of my title screen image designer!
