Game complete!

Posted by

My game, SPHER01D, is complete!

The Spheroid Temple hangs from the highest branch of a giant tree overlooking a cliff face. In ancient times, this temple was the home of the greatest gunsmiths in history. Now, it’s an empty husk filled with skeletons and piles of dusty old guns.

They say that at the bottom of the temple lies the ultimate weapon, the most powerful gun ever created. Yet no one has ever made it far enough to reach it. Will you? (Yes.)

This game is a sequel to my second-lowest-rated LD game, PYRAM1D, and it’s pretty spectacular how far I’ve come since then. I must’ve put more work into this game than any LD game prior. It’s exhausting, but rewarding. Now please excuse me while I sleep for a thousand years.

My game, TRANSMATTER WHIRLMPOLE VACUUMBUSTER, is complete!

buster

It is a game where you are stuck on a small patch of land in the middle of a sea of lava, accosted by numerous enemies. You must use your eponymous vacuumbuster to suck and/or push the enemies off the edge of the island.

You can play it here!

Later on I’m going to add a battery meter for your vaccumbuster, with batteries randomly dropping on the island that get pushed around by the buster just like the enemies do. Probably also going to have another class of enemy that walks around shooting projectiles at you.

I’M IN

I’m in! This will be my fifth Ludum Dare. I’ll be using the following tools:

-Love2D/Lua
-Sublime Text 2
-Paint.NET
-Famitracker
-BFXR

As this is my fifth Ludum Dare, I’ve amassed quite a wealth of experience and wisdom vis-a-vis crafting a video game in 48 hours. Over the years, I have developed an intricate document detailing every single tip, trick, schema, tactic, and machination I’ve ever used in my game development career. I’ll be using this document to guide me through this event, and I encourage you to take advantage of its wisdom as well.

This GAMEDEV GUARANTEED SUCCESS CHEAT SHEET GAME PLAN is my baby, and like all babies, it hides both hidden power and a dangerous secret. I fear that it may have surpassed even me in power. So, maybe don’t leave it up on your screen for too long, just in case it gets its roots in your computer. I accidentally saved it to my phone a while ago, and it’s already sifting through my contacts and making mysterious phone calls in the dead of night. Good luck!

Greener Grass Post-Compo version!

Posted by
Wednesday, August 27th, 2014 6:56 pm

I just finished the post-compo version of my LD game, Greener Grass!

ldscreen1

The original version of the game was too hard, which is a good thing. The only problem was that I was throwing all of the mechanics at the player at once, creating five identical levels that were really fun but had no difficulty curve. To fix that, I’ve adjusted the spawn rates for each level in the post-compo version, increasing the difficulty for each level so that level 4 has the same difficulty as the original version. Also, it was kind of dumb that missing one jump could kill you and send you back five levels, forcing you to go through the whole thing all over again, so I’ve instituted a three-lives system.

Just in case those decisions are too humanitarian, though, I’ve added a new hazard in levels 5 and 6: fireballs.

This was a bug. The actual post-compo version will have at least 10% less fireballs.

You can download the post-compo version from my entry’s page. And feel free to play and rate the original first! ūüėČ

My game, Greener Grass, is complete and ready to play!

ldscreen1

The idea is that you make your way up to the constantly cycling¬†portal above your world, in search of the one universe that¬†doesn’t¬†entirely consist of a bottomless pit with various hazards floating above it. Unfortunately, you don’t have much luck with that.

If you’re a fan of challenging platforming madness and ice cream, then you’re in luck, because this game has plenty of challenging platforming madness. Click here to play it, and then maybe get some ice cream afterwards.

I’m making pretty good progress; my game is starting to resemble a game.

I’m going to try to add graphics soon, although it does look pretty nice already.

Here’s my game so far. The concept is that you only get one enemy, so you have to keep it alive. Obviously it wants to kill you, but letting it die would be like killing an endangered species. You’re not a monster, are you???

screen1

Right now, all you do is goad it into attacking you so it doesn’t hit the scenery and die. Eventually I’d like to add some more interesting challenges, and maybe some kind of repulsion ability to counteract the enemy’s attraction to you.

I’m in???

Not sure how much time I’m going to have this time around, but I suppose it’s better to have a really bad game than no game at all.

Tools:

-LOVE2D/Lua

-Notepad++

-GIMP

-Famitracker

-A couple of personal collisions and angle functions of questionable quality

Finished!

My game PYRAM1D has been submitted! It’s a roguelike-like-like about rooms and fighting and pyramids and being lost:

If you like videogames, and you like ice cream, then you’re in luck, because this is a videogame. Feel free to play it, and then maybe eat some ice cream afterwards.
