I’m in!

Friday, December 5th, 2014 3:34 pm

I’m in! Even with Finals week in progress (including work, a choir concert, and studious amounts of studying) I think I should have time to make something playable.

I’ll be using GameMaker Studio, and that’s about it!

How to come up with an idea for “Beneath the Surface” that is original? Now that is the question I asked myself, and luckily came away with something not involving digging (well literally, that is). My idea – if I can complete it in time – involves metaphorically “digging” into the heart of a lovestruck individual and watching as the emotions within play out as a short story. This will be accomplished by using a multiple levels layered on top of one another with each level representing an emotion. The player must dig down beneath the surface of each, switching across layers, to continue through the story. I got the idea from how I feel personally now: confused, stressed, and worried about someone I like. Yay emotions.

Game update: Day 1ish.

Player movement is down, along with animation, and 10 random items are in place. I still have to program wolves and other enemies, and then make the system mesh together.  That will probably be the most difficult part. Besides the fire spreading mechanic.

For this game it feels like it’s going to be a mix of Don’t Starve and Spelunky, which doesn’t sound terrible. Now if I can just finish on time…

First Few Hours…

Friday, December 13th, 2013 11:27 pm

Here’s what I’ve accomplished in my first few hours: a basic mockup of the item select screen, and the basic gameplay for the actual game. Yay progress! Now time for a League of Legends break.

I’m streaming on twitch, if anyone cares. I just started spriting, and the game’s about surviving and stuff using a bagel or other stuff. Yay stuff!

Stuff: How to Survive with a

Friday, December 13th, 2013 7:33 pm

Originally I was really hoping for two colors to win, but then the perfect idea for this popped up. You’re stranded in the woods for seven days, and must survive with only one random item. This could be a hunting rifle, a match, or a bagel. Lots of pointing, clicking and dying!

During the course of the Ludum Dare 26, did you find yourself working on a game only to realize that it was too huge of a task to take on? Did inspiration strike you just a day late, losing yourself 24 precious hours? Did a new, more interesting idea pop into your head during the voting stage of the competition? Did you simply wish you had more time to continue development of your game into the beauty it could become?

I know that one of these (or all of them) could have happened to you, and that is why I created Ludum Daradise. Ludum Daradise is a laid back “competition” that takes place over the course of four weeks from May 20 to June 17. The goal of Daradise is to give you ample time to polish your game to perfection, or to create an entirely new one under the same theme.

I found that my entry didn’t convey the minimalistic theme as much as I would have liked. So, over the past few weeks I’ve been working on a game on and off that I believe would fit the game better. The graphics are simple and clean, the gameplay is a mix of Asteroids and Lunar Lander, and the music is actually implemented this time around and is created randomly by the gameplay itself.

If you already have an updated version of your game, or a completely new one, you can send it in to ludumdaradise(at)gmail(dot)com. I’ll post it HERE whenever I am able. Make sure you include at least one screenshot, a brief description, and a download link so others can play!

You start out and move like Mario does toward the flag to the right.

You jump and shoot your shuriken at turrets aaand…

Little men who chuck grenades!

There’s also  a sewer level!

I probably spent a good 10-12 hours on the game, which is not nearly enough for my whole idea. I sadly wasn’t able to include a story, more level segments, more enemies, and boss battles. Those, will be for future updates, though!

Come check out the game! (Windows only)

YES YES YES finally

Minimaul- 0.5 Alpha release!

Sunday, April 28th, 2013 2:29 pm

I’ve just barely got something playable, but it is finally worthy of being posted!

Minimaul is a randomly-generated platformer inspired by Mega Man and Contra.

Move with the arrow keys, jump with z, shoot a star with x. You can double jump and retrieving your star gives you another double jump.

(Please don’t mind the crappy screenshots)

Day #1 Roundup

Saturday, April 27th, 2013 11:29 pm

I’ve come into the competition a day late after wasting the first on a bad idea. For my second attempt, i decided to take it upon myself to create a randomly generated action roguelike based off of Contra and Megaman (why oh why did I do this…). Luckily, progress is being made! Here’s a brief look of the still heavily in development randomization:

Tomorrow is going to suck XD

Idea scrapped, new one chosen

Saturday, April 27th, 2013 3:05 pm

Sadly, my first idea is taking too long and it just isn’t very interesting. Luckily, I have something new in mind that shouldn’t take long at all, and should feel epic. Who’s up for some ninjas?

Now Streaming!

Going to be on for hopefully half an hour or so.

With my wonderful ability of foresight, I was not able to see this theme…
