I’m in! And as usual, I’ll be live streaming the entire competition here: http://twitch.tv/TheCherno

Here’s what I’ll be using:
– Engine: Sparky
– Language: C++
– Graphics: Paint.NET / After Effects / Photoshop
– Music: Logic Pro X

That’s probably it! Have fun, and make great games! :)

The End of the Day

Well, I’m going to go to bed and hopefully wake up tomorrow full of ideas. I thought I knew what I was doing, but now I just don’t know. Typical. At least the lighting engine / entity framework is done.

Basic Lighting Engine Done!

Since my idea revolved around being underground and using natural light for guidance, I needed to create a decent lighting engine. So here is what the game looks like so far, without shadows (yet!):

I have to say I’m really enjoying this theme so far. I’m thinking of making a 2D top-down game that takes place beneath the surface of some planet, and the idea is to get to the core of the planet to return back home to Earth. It’s going to look dark and creepy, but the player won’t have a flashlight; they’ll have to rely on natural light. Because this is another planet, there will be weird minerals and resources that glow or emit some kind of light, by which the player will have to use to navigate around. Survival +  puzzle kind of genre. :)

Coming Along Nicely…

The engine is pretty much finished, and I’ve finally got an idea for the game. Should be great!

The whole development is streamed live right on YouTube, here: http://www.youtube.com/thechernoproject

Progress So Far…

I guess I’m making some kind of Zelda / Pokemon style game. Basically with each night into the game, the player evolves into a new being, and this evolution also depends on which biome he’s in.
I haven’t really decided what the aim of the game is going to be, but hey, guess that’ll come eventually.

The whole thing is live streamed straight to YouTube: youtube.com/thechernoproject
