This is my second ld jam with compo rules. I was part of a jam once (so third time ldjam now)

I don’t want to do much programming so I started with art and music and sound. I don’t have much energy this compo but the most important thing is not to win but to take part.MainChar 1

I think if I have time left at the end I will replace the pixel art with regular 2d artdude

Problems uploading screenshots

Hey, I tried uploading screenshots but the only time it worked was when I reduced it in quality and size to 1280×720.

But now I can’t upload any new ones or replace them, even if they are only 800×450 px.

Maybe know something that could help?

Sick of programming

I am sick of programming so I am making some music. I hope it fits and is not annoying after the third time playing.GarageBand

The game is playable but it could be much better but I am starting to begin raging over my code and play testing sessions…


Explosives added

Explosives have been added to the game. The rocket launcher and the poop both explode on hit. Don’t ask me why the poop explodes. But poop is not that dangerous.


Currently there are eight weapons but the two melee weapons are boring because there is no firing effect.

I will now do some polishing, like a “game over screen” with scores, add another bar for the power left for running, make bigger blood splash on impact, lower the height of particles about one half of a block etc.

If time left: art polishing, new enemy type, more weapons.

I don’t have an animation where he holds a gun. Je just stands there and the bullets just come directly from his crotch and spread in every direction like he is ejaculating. Turning them yellow would not make it better. 😀


I don’t know how to film it and make a .gif from it so you have to wait until the end of LD to see this animated. I probably won’t fix it because the fix would cost to much time.

You can now actually play the game.small

The graphics are horrible though because the enemies flicker because there is no solid pathfinding implemented yet.

Next I am going to implement a health bar, limited running and I will balance the weapons.  At the moment you can shoot with your fists. I’d like to implement some explosives.

The arena looks very boring and I need to find some more interesting blocks for decoration. Maybe some cheering people.

I am not motivated enough to implement a new running animation because for that I need to draw 24 images by hand. Those three monster images I made took enough time already and they should be around 8 images for a walking animation.

What I have accomplished so far:

Find an idea: I am going to make an arena-battle game where you get only one weapon each round.

Setup: github repo created, engine files copied and basic configuration running.

Spinning wheel: I made a spinning wheel which appears each round but at the moment it just picks a random weapon and does not spin.

Map: The map is generated because my engines (shitty) map editor only works under windows and currently I have not installed BootCamp.

Art: I tried to do some hand drawings but I failed so I use pixel art. The images are heavily oversized at this resolution and I don’t know how big I scale them.

Tools I use:

Java with Netbeans IDE and GitHub

If the theme fits it i will use my open source game Engine: Wurfel Engine

If it does not fit the theme I will just use the libGDX framework.

For sound & music I will probably use Garage Band.

For art Pixelmator and/or Pixen.

Today I need go sleeping very early. Contest starts at 7 am tomorrow. Also I need to clean and tidy my room a bit to feel comfortable. I will buy enough to eat and drink for the whole weekend. I will probably stay sober the whole time unless the only things missing are art and music.

Because of an exam next week I am a bit worried about the time I am losin but I will manage.
