Wormelution: done!

So, this was epic. Ludum Dare makes my brain go jelly but it’s always a great experience. And here’s my result, Wormelution!

As usual, it lacks a little the game. But some parts are quite polished and feel good so I’m quite happy about it. Some other things went, as usual, terribly wrong. More Post-Ludum-Dare when my brain works again.

I also uploaded a clip to YouTube.

Whadup? I’m in!

Second LD for me. I missed LD23 because I was busy this weekend but now I’m full on!

Unfortunately my last LD entry was also the last game I made, so I doubt that there will be much improvement. I also use a bunch of tools I don’t have much experience with yet, so this will be a great learning experience.

So here are my tools:

  • I’m using Love2D with a bunch of libraries. I already created some boilerplate code available on GitHub.
  • I use Sublime Text 2 as Editor and see if it beats Textwrangler (probably will!)
  • For graphics Photoshop CS6 (which might be overkill but I need some practice)
  • For sound SuperCollider and Audacity
  • For music Logic Pro and SuperCollider. I used Logic a lot five years ago but totally unlearned it. So this will be fun!
  • If finishing my game I might use additional tools/libraries. Will post them if I use them.

So long! Can’t wait for the theme announcement and all the fun we all will have. I’m not screencasting or timelapsing but might think out loud on Twitter @cappelnord.

Sociophobia: Done!

OK. My first game jam, my first Ludum Dare. I got something finished, even if it’s not really a game. But it’s kind of fun and I learned a lot.

Some things I’ll do differently next time:

  • Think about the game itself first. Not establish a style and don’t have any engaging gameplay.
  • More planning – less wild  hacking of sourcecode. It’s a mess!
  • In-Game Level Editor! Spend too much time.
  • Less caffeine. Just makes you nervous.
  • Lua is very good. But look for a good IDE!
  • Use tools more frequently. Wanted to do the music in Logic Pro – haven’t used it in years, so I did all music/sounds with SuperCollider. Good too.
Here is some Video on YouTube. (Audio/Image are not in sync)

Now looking forward to play some of your games!

15 hours of work done …

It’s about a sociophobic who tries to get some stuff done. He’s getting panic attacks from all the people around him, so it’s your job to keep him alone!

I don’t like it at the moment. Don’t know If I will continue tomorrow.

Me in!

So hi! This is my first LD so I’m pretty excited and quite sure to mess things up. Initially i wanted to go for a browser based game using HTML5 Audio and WebGL but I don’t have enough time to look for Frameworks and (re)learn JavaScript. So I’ll be using these tools:

  • Programming: Lua/Löve.
  • Libraries: LICK, HUMP, AnAL
  • Probably will use some other helper Libraries as well – don’t know yet! Will add them here later.
  • Editor: TextWrangler on Mac
  • Graphics: Gimp & Inkscape, maybe Pixen
  • Sound/Music: SuperCollider, Audacity & Logic Pro
I’ll also use some utility Lua code from another project and add some functions before the compo will start. I’ll add all this code to the LÖVECry repo. It’s a mess, don’t use it!
As it’s my first time using Löve I’m aiming for a small but fine game idea. Hope the theme will make it possible!
I also asked my girlfriend If she wants to cook for me all the time. Didn’t work out 😀
