Insane Techniques: for people who hoard items in RPGs

I noticed something about how I play RPGs.
I always end up saving all my good items far too long, often never using them even after I get to the final boss of the game.
I always ask, “What if I NEED this heal later? What if I NEED an attack item?”, and never actually use them, even when it would save me so much agony.

With that in mind, I came up with Insane Techniques, the 1-on-1 RPG where you have (and will earn) many Insane Techniques to use to defeat your enemies, but with a catch:
On a given adventure, you can only use each technique ONCE.

Each adventure is only a few minutes long, so I hope the risk-and-reward scoring and unlocking scheme will have you learning when to hold back your techniques and when to unleash them, and ultimately have you coming back again and again to challenge yourself and get the top score.

There’s a lot of things I want to add to this game still, but I managed to pull together a functionally complete (if not slightly imbalanced) game in the 48 hours given, which gave me a real thrill. I’ve been watching Ludum Dare for a while and am happy to complete a game on my first attempt, even if the graphics and sound are lacking (nonexistent).

I’m happy to welcome your feedback at my Twitter or on the comments page, and look forward to exchanging plays with many other Ludum Dare creators.
Insane Techniques is developed in FlashPunk and is playable on most web browsers (hopefully!). Click on the image above to play it, and click here to view the game’s entry and more screenshots on the Ludum Dare website.
