I’m in for my 3rd(?) LD, I have some prior commitments this weekend so I will be working around those (as usual), but I am excited to dive into this one. I was successful at another game jam where I made Euro Buck Simulator 2, and am looking forward to keeping the streak going.

I will be using:

  • Unity
  • Photoshop
  • Pickle (maybe)
  • Blender (maybe)
  • Audacity
  • Garageband (maybe)
  • and snacks

I’m In / Panspermia Post-Mortem

I’m in for this years October challenge I’m looking to start, finish, and sell a simple game. I’m still in early brainstorming but I will use Unity and want to release on Mac / PC at the minimum.

Last year for the October challenge I polished up my Ludum Dare 24 game Panspermia which took longer than I thought it would and released it for iOS and Android in mid December earning my $1. I contacted several blogs and despite follow up from a couple smaller blogs never was featured. I think the majority of my sales were word of mouth or random stumbling. Sales peaked around release with friends and family picking it up and sharing it with others, but petered out over the course of this year to maybe 2 – 4 sales per month.

Panspermia on Google Play
Panspermia on the iOS App Store

I’m still thrilled that I was able to get a product polished enough that I felt good putting a price tag on it, and even had some people I’ve never met pay me for it.

I’m hoping to release another game this time around. With any luck and what I’ve learned since last year it will have a bit more success but even if it just gets one sale I’ll be very happy.

Watch out for Ghosts!

IMG_1024Hi Everyone! This will be my second Ludum Dare, over my first (24) I created Panspermia, which I just submitted to both the Android and iOS app stores as part of an extremely tardy effort to do the october challenge.

Last time I decided to do LD as a last minute thing and already had several things planned for the weekend (karaoke and a baseball game among other things), so I didn’t get as much time to polish as I would have liked and didn’t get to sounds (the final version now has really awesome sounds).

Play the Panspermia Demo here

This time I will use:

Engine: Unity
Art: GIMP, Blender, Inkscape
Sound: Audacity, Sunvox, and a headset mic

Good luck!

Didn’t make it in time, but Panspemia is coming soon!

While I wasn’t able to get my celestial pollination game Panspermia up on a store by the end of the month I’ve managed a huge number of improvements and am almost ready to put it up, so while I did fail to complete the challenge I’m very happy with the results and plan to finish it out

I’ve tweaked almost every aspect of the game, from the graphics, to sounds, to the speed of gameplay and I’m really excited about where the game stands. I still have plenty of work to do before I’m willing to offer it up for sale. I need to add some basic gameplay explanation replace some filler sounds, and add a level select screen. Once I get those things in and polished up I’ve already got it running on iOS and Android and plan to release it on both the iOS App Store and the Google Play store.

This month has been a great time for me to really focus on this game and polish Panspermia beyond any game I’ve made before. I’ll post again when I release, hopefully in the next couple of weeks!

All done and submitted just in time! Traded sound for karaoke and a baseball game, but I’m very happy with the result of my first LD!

This will be my first LD, though I’ve done a 48 hour team jam in the past. I’m pretty excited, but also have a packed weekend so I’m going to try to start very small and see where I can go from there.

I’ll be using:
Unity for Building
Sublime Text 2 for Coding
Blender for modeling
Gimp for painting
Audacity for recording and editing sound

My desk setup:

My desk setup: Ikea foldout table + monitor wall mount + hackintosh + nerf gun
