Hot outside today, so the AC is hooked up! I’ve named it R2D2, it’s my best friend, keeping me company.<3

I’ll probably be using Unity, Visual Studio, Pyxel, bfxr, Audacity. And maybe Procreate and Figure.

First day

So, this is what I’ve going after the first day:

I have working player controls, checkpoints, lap counting and a simple car AI, with tweakable stupidness setting.
I want this game to have that classic mario kart feel to it. I wasn’t sure whether to use sprites drawn from different angles or 3d models for the cars. I decided on using a 3d model in the end, as I *think* I can make that faster. We’ll see about that.

(For a little while at least)

I’ll probably be using Unity as usual. Pyxel perhaps, or Paint.net.

I’ll be trying the MiniLD for the first time, I think the theme is very interesting! ;D

I’ll be using Unity, Pyxel and bfxr.

smashysmash

I got some more work done today. I added collectible gems that drop from defeated enemies. Video of the game, with some sound effects implemented: http://youtu.be/ELloiZYgdV8

I’ve been working away on this weird little game at a pretty steady pace. I won’t have much time to work on it for the rest of the week, so I’m not so sure that I’ll be able to finish on time for the deadline. But I’ll probably upload whatever I’ve managed to create by then. And maybe I’ll continue working on it later on.
I’m planning on adding score counting (collect gems from defeated enemies). I’ve got a combo-system going, which will increase the amount of gems based on your number of consecutive hits (time limited).

Here are some gameplay screenshots of Super Baby Seal Revenge:

wee

Steer the seal in order to get the spiky ball to start rolling.

smash

Seal-clubbin’, tree-hatin’ lumberjacks will try to hunt you down. Revenge-smaash!

Gameover

You have 2 hit points and after those are gone, you’re dead. You regain one hit point every time you kill an enemy. If you’re lucky, it is possible to get an extra hit point after a killing blow has been dealt to you, as there’s a short window of time to kill an enemy before game over.

swing

I finally got an idea which seems feasible given the time I have for this MiniLD.

I think I have the basic mechanics down now more or less (you’re tied to a thing that you have to swing around). This game is already pretty frustrating to play, we’ll see how it turns out… 😛

This was my first MiniLD.
I might’ve had too many ideas in the beginning, and all of them more or less seemed to be dead ends. But luckily, something WONDERFUL happened, and everything turned out fine. This happened when I least expected it!

What went right:

-I found no bugs!

What went wrong:

-Everyone else found all the bugs!

Score and combo system

I’ve added a simple score and combo system. I’ve also got some scrolling of the world and NPCs going, which I’ll hopefully will be able to expand to include some varying backdrops and such.
