Woohoo, that’s something!

Here are my results:

Captura Captura1

While I’m not very happy with the Overall results (not my worst but also not my best), I’m very happy with the humor rating (top 100!) and the Theme one, the two categories in what I’ve focused more.

I’d a great experience while making the game and, though it’s a bit rushed and it haven’t sound (I’ve got no Internet nearly the whole LD weekend, and I hadn’t time to use sfrx) I’m happy with the product, and maybe I will make a more developed version. If anyone wants to play the game and give me more feedback, here’s the link: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-35/?action=preview&uid=44355

Also here’s the whole game’s story:

Brobots Postmortem

Posted by
Monday, January 4th, 2016 12:33 pm

So, there’s still a small time for voing, so that’s probably my last chance to post my game’s postmortem. That was my second Ludum Dare, and as last time, I’m so impressed of how many feedback I received in comparison of most global game jams! After saying that, I’ll explain the pros and cons of the game’s development.

Cons:

-Spent too many time fixing bugs that I should have prevented. That lowered a lot the game’s producction.

-Graphics. They are a bit rushed.

-Get some headache when making level design. May beacuse I was so obsessed at making 20 levels. Because of that obsession I made too many tutorial levels

-Pallete. Not sure why but I’m really bad at choosing a color scheme. In most comments of this and other games from mine, people says that colours hurts. May I should tryin at using a Game Boy pallete like in my entry of LD31. No sure if people noticed the level names above because of background.

-Music. Because of Compo rules and because I suck at music, I needed to generate it using CGMusic. Great program if you need music in a Jam, though.

Pros:

-Managed to get some good levels. That was one of my objectives, and I’m glad to have acomplished it.

-People actually liked the gameplay.

-Though I used only one theme, I think I implemented it well. Using growing here would force things too much.

-I think that the difficulty balance is good enough.

-Managed to enter in the Compo!

In conclusion, apart of graphics and audio, I hope to get a decent score in other categories (not in the top 100, though). What matters is that I’d fun making this game and got some good feedback.

Link of my game: Brobots!

Ok, I should post that yesterday, but after all the day designing levels I forgot it 😛

I used only the two buttons theme because I found it more comfortable.

Description of my game:

Two robots have problems! And you only need two buttons to help them! Guide the robots throught 20 challenging levels divided in two different environments!

Ok, I started the game very slowly (whole morning for the basic mechanics and level selection), but in the afternoon I got a lot of things done. To the brobots mechanic I added some colour switches to make things more interesting (and difficult).

Level 1

Level 7 (last for now)

If I continue in that pace, maybe I’ll have 20 levels for the Compo. If I have more time, I want to add new esceneries and elements to the game.

Started my game!

I’ll use the two buttons theme and maybe the growing one. Hope I have time to make more than 10 levels 😛

ludum dare 31 scores

That’s my score. I think that I haven’t make nothing so bad, all those scores have passed the 50% of the scores, even if some of them doesn’t deserve it. Now I’ll say what I think of every score:

Theme: Well, I know that so many people hated the theme this time, but me, instead of hating the theme, I hate the way the most people (including me) implemented it. We used the theme as a handicap, as a limitation of our screen, when “entire game on one screen” can mean a lot of things more. And also, every game is in one screen, even if it have views or other stuff like this. Anyway, some people sayed that I used the theme in a great way. Maybe it’s because I tried to demonstrate that a fixed view isn’t always a limitation, with it you can make a great platformer.

Fun: So people (here and in other websites) sayed that the game is addicting. In fact, I think that that’s the most addicting game that I made. May I’ll use this gameplay in the future.

Overall: I’m happy with this score, that’s for me the most important category, because it doesn’t indicate if I’m a good artist, programmer or musician it says if I’m a good indiedev in all th things (or a great team for some people).

Mood: Yeah, I know, my game is frustrating :P. But I’m not sure what this category means at all, so I can’t really comment it here.

Humor: I wasn’t pretending to make a funny game, LOL. Anyway, maybe someone understanded the joke about mr, ducka nd the room0 (room’s default name in game maker: studio and maybe in some more programs). And may someone found funny the graphics. The next time I’ll make a really funny game.

Graphics: It seems that people here likes my gameboy-vntage style. And yes, this time the resolution is higher that the gameboy one, but it would be so difficult making the game even with a smaller level.

Audio: I think that I don’t really deserve it at all. My game only have a few sfx, because I haven’t tme for music.

Innovation: This is the only score for what I expected a bit more. At least more than the audio category :P. But anyway, my game only innovates in some mechanics, it’s a classic platformer.

Well, now I want to say thank you to everyone who voted my entry. I loved the whole jam, I received loads of feedback, even more that the feedback I receive normally in Newgrounds. I love that here most f the people that plays a game comments it, and how of kind is everyone. Also congratulations for the top 100, those are great games!!!

Thanks to everyone who played my game!!!!
