I’ve spent about 11 hours working on my game so far and its basically complete over then art and music which a friend and me will be doing tomorrow (doing the Jam). However I feel like my game this time is pretty awful. Haven’t been able to do any of the other LD’s this year due to school so I’m excited to be able to enter this time!

I’ll be doing the Jam like I usually do with a friend of mine doing the sounds and art.

We’ll be using GameMaker: Studio, SFXR, Photoshop CC,  Paint.Net and probably some other stuff

I really should be finishing homework instead of posting this but oh well. I’ll hopefully be in after missing LD31 due to being overseas at the time. If I don’t get bombarded with homework during the first week of term next week, I’ll defiantly be entering. If I do have work I’ll probably just spend one day working on a smaller game.

I’ll probably be getting a friend to help me with graphics and am not sure what they’ll use other than photoshop and a graphics tablet.

I’ll be using:

– Gamemaker Studio


– Paint (great for some simple concepts)

My goal is to make a fun little game that isn’t buggy like my ld30 entry. I also want to get some actual nice music this time that isn’t generated.

Connected Worlds – Post-Mortem

Well, I’ve been wanting to write this since the first day of the judging, but I have kept not doing so. Because there is only just over a week left, I decided it’s time I finally made my post-mortem.


My Goals:

My goals were to:

– Not work on ideas that I end up scrapping: I did a good job on this one, didn’t add things that were too big that I ended up not using.

– Add HTML5 support: unfortunately I couldn’t get this working so stopped trying after about 10 mins and decided to just go with windows.

– Add online high scores: This didn’t really fit with my game, and I still don’t know how to add 100% so I didn’t bother.


Thoughts on the game

This was my second LD that I’ve finished a game and this game is a lot bigger then my previous. I managed to spend a lot more time on it and that’s good. Connected Worlds has also been getting some pretty good reviews.


The Good

– Made a much more fun game

– Much better graphics because I had a friend do it.

– More fun to make as I had a friend over.

– We came up with a good idea


The Bad

– Because my friend didn’t come over for a while after theme was announced, we didn’t get started for a while.

– We spent ages coming up with the idea and didn’t start development until 6 hours after theme was announced.

– We were up too late (4:30am) on the first night not really doing a whole lot and were tired next day.

– Had a few annoying bugs (I need to comment the code more to stop this)

– Spent a few hours going out to a university open day for a few hours so we lost time.


If we had had more time, we also would have been able to fix the few bugs/glitches in the game.

I already made an “I’m In” post, but I now have a friend helping with art and I am super excited, so I thought I would make a new post listing everything we’ll be using and what our goals are.


What we’ll be using

Engine – Game Maker Studio

IDE – Parakeet

Language – GML

Art – Either Gimp or Photoshop (not sure which version) Probably be using Gimp.

Graphics Tablet – A Wacom Bamboo thingy.

Sounds – sfxr

Music – FL Studio (if I can get another friend of mine to help :) or LSDJ (if we feel like some chiptune)

Food – Lots of unhealthy snacks.

Drink – Lots of cans of soft drink probs.



– To integrate online highscores (if scores are a thing in it)

– To post a HTML5 version that works on PC / Mac / Linux as well as mobile / touch screen devices


I’ve also been playing around with HTML5 and will be adding online highscores soon, to my warmup game. The link won’t work yet but hopefully will soon. It is a snake clone that is kinda simple but was fun to make:

This will be my 6th time entering but will be only the 2nd time that I’ll actually finish (hopefully). I’ll be working mainly by myself by may get some help with music / ideas. I’m entering the Jam because of that and because I’ll probably end up needing the extra day.


What I’ll be using:

IDE: Parakeet

Compiler / Engine: Game Maker Studio

Graphics: Gimp

Sounds: sfxr

Music (what my friend will use): FL Studio

Timelapse: Chronolapse



To spend more time working on the game and not getting sidetracked or working on ideas that are silly for a few hours that I end up scrapping.

Don’t have ideas for tool jam

So this is the first time I have seen a tool jam occur.  I really like the idea but can’t come up with any ideas :( I started working on a key generator but I don’t see how that could be helpful to a LD game. If anyone has any ideas please tell me :)

This is going to be my 5th LD and so far everytime I have abandoned my game halfway through or not spent enough time on it. This time is going to de different! I am going to be having a friend over for the weekend and we shall be hopefully spending a lot more time on this. I shall be doing the programming and a bit of art and my friend will be doing Music, Sound FX and a bit of art as well. I feel that our main problem will be art as neither of us are that good at it (me being the worst).


We shall be using:

– Game Maker Studio

– Parakeet (custom IDE for GML, Highly recommend!)

– Gimp


– Audacity

We will be taking a break from trying to work on our upcoming commercial game to try and make a game in a weekend!

I have entered a few times before but never finished :( No one else from Bob Fish Productions has entered before so hopefully we have a fun time!
