Postmortem – Namcap’s Nightmare – Our First 3D Game

Namcap’s Nightmare is our 2nd LD Jam Entry(I’ve also participated in the Compo in LD35). And it’s the best one yet. CLICK HERE TO PLAY!
I don’t know if we will continue to develop this game, what do you guys think? Is it worth it?

Well, this was the most intense weekend that I had in years! I was so connected with this game that sometimes I even forgot to eat!
I want to thank Kaduwall(3D artist and sound guy) for providing food and shelter to me through this entire weekend!
I’m really proud of the outcome, me and Kaduwall learned a lot and, seeing the positive comments the game has been receiving makes me so proud. Game Development is what I want to do for a living and I’m feeling that I’m going to the right direction with this.

The Game:
You wake up in your room, but not your regular room.
Find all energies in order to escape through the door!
You might feel that you’ve played a similar old game before.

Move with WSAD or arrow keys. Shift to sprint, space to jump.
When you get all 50 energies, press E to open the door!

The game is playable, you can reach the end and everything, but there are a few minor bugs and performance issues, we are fixing them.

– Original 3D models and structures, made from scratch.
– Textures were downloaded (royalty free) and then mixed/adjusted to our liking.
– Power up and atmosphere soundtracks are original, actually recorded.

I’ve been studying game development for a while now, and i’ve chosen the LD to kickstart my career as a game developer.

Sharkdiver is my first completed game ever, and i’m very happy with the result, i’ve managed to enter in the compo with only 15 minutes remaining, whew!

For now i have a Windows and a WebGL build.

I’m planning to develop an Android build with leaderboards and put it in the Play Store in the future, and if the feedback is good, iOS too(Unity multiplatform builds ftw).

You can play Sharkdiver HERE

Don’t be afraid to send your feedback, good or not =)

More about the game:
You are a mutated human that has the ability to shapeshift into a shark, matching the colors of your liking.
Objective: Match the color and shape of the enemy to pass through them.
Controls: Z to shapeshift, X to swap colors

Tools used:
Unity for coding
Pen and paper for art
My smartphone for scanning
Inkscape for bitmap tracing
Guitar Pro for awesome mid soundtrack
GXSCC for 16bit sampling
sfxr for top-notch sound effects
