After Thoughts & Quick Demo

For anyone interested.  Here are my thoughts on this LD and a quick demo of the game:

I’m Done

Monday, August 29th, 2016 2:41 pm

I’m done, not out of choice but necessity.  This was easily the worse time I’ve had trying to make a game just due to IRL stuff.

You can play my single player card game here:  Alien Artifact

I stress it is very much a prototype.  Needs tons of balancing and cards added.  But it functions.

Still way behind

Sunday, August 28th, 2016 2:08 pm

Well I’m still way behind, certainly more than 5-6 hours for the compo, probably more than the Jam too, oh well I’ll finish it either way.  Currently have a few cards made that are put into a deck and shuffled.  At the start of the game, 3 cards are drawn.  You can click on a card and then a socket to place that card/glyph into the ancient device thingy.  Play points are not yet deducted, but play points and energy are generated based on inserted glyphs.  In the screenshot, you can see a the last card has a number and ~ on the left side whereas the other cards don’t, that indicates a card with a turn limit and in this case will stop producing play points (and reducing energy) in 5 turns.  Once a socket is used, it can’t be re-socketed except via a special card, that has yet to be made, that will destroy random glyphs which may open them back up or I might just destroy the glyph’s abilities and leave the socket disabled.  There is also skip button that costs 2 player points just in case you don’t get a card you can use.  Also, after using a card, all three cards will be eliminated from the deck so the player will have to choose wisely.

Loads of balancing and cards need made, probably more sockets in that process as well.  Ideally, the connecting lines you see would have been used for a connection bonus but I think I’m scraping that idea for now.  Like I said,  a lot to do yet and I have to skip out for about 5 hours too.  But it is fun and I learn something new about Unity every time I use it so I play to finish either way.

I don’t know… Aliens?

Saturday, August 27th, 2016 9:22 pm

My entry, if I can find time to finish it that is, will be a single player card/puzzle game.  You’ll be dealt some cards with a glyph on them.  You’ll place the glyph on the device and try to unlock the secrets of the ancient device.  What secret does it hold?  Who knows!  I certainly don’t yet :)

Anyway, very little coding done.  Ditched an earlier side scrolling effort in favor of something with less moving parts as it were.  Screenshot of what little progress I’ve made.  Graphics are will hopefully get an overhaul.  You know, life gets in the way of these things sometimes.

Off to a rocky start…

Saturday, August 27th, 2016 11:03 am

Having a heck of a time getting Unity’s Texture2D.GetPixels32 function to actually read the correct colors.  I have a 32bit PNG being imported with the settings below.  It reads the pure Red (R: 255 G:0 B:0 A:255) just fine which is the bottom row.  From there, the Green is increase by 25 for each tile going clockwise (bottom left corner being: R: 255 G:25 B:0 A:255, then the left side being R: 255 G:50 B:0 A:255, and so on).  If I use pure colors, it imports fine but I’m going to have to use a bunch of different maps if I do that.  But the off-red colors are being adjusted by the GetPixels32 function I think.  For instance, a pixel with R: 255 G: 25 is being read in as RGBA(255, 116, 0, 255).

This will be a Jam entry due to time constraints IRL so any thoughts would be great.

I’m In! [Probably]

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016 5:44 pm

This will, hopefully, be my 3rd LD!  IRL might get in the way but that probably just means a non-compo entry this time, we’ll see!

I’ll most likely be sticking with Unity/C# again.  Possibly pure JavaScript depending on the theme, I have a couple ideas for some of the themes that would be really simple.

I put together a simple Memory Game written in 100% HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/JQuery.  No downloads required to build it.  If you are interested, you can play it here.  Thought newbie’s to LD might like to see a simple game they can build but I didn’t get around to writing the actual tutorial before the event as I planned, feel free to look at the source code as it is fully commented.  Remember, it doesn’t have to be fancy so long as you had fun and learned something in the process!.

Check out “Shape Shifted” yet?

Sunday, May 1st, 2016 7:37 am

Like games similar to Tetris?  Like to play games similar to Guitar Hero?  How about slot machines?  Shape Shifted might be for you!

I’ve had more people tell me that they like this game than any other project I’ve worked on.  And while I know it has a long way to go to be anything that could be distributed, I think it turned out pretty good for about 24 hours of work.  I’d love to here your thoughts and get some more votes.  It is playable in WebGL on itch.io, no download required though that is available as well.  Thanks!

Shape Shifted – My LD35 Entry

Well it is complete, I was too out of it to post about it last night.  There is also a web version up on Itch.IO.  Enjoy!

I’m In

Friday, March 25th, 2016 8:03 am

Unless something strange happens, I’m in!  I had a lot of fun with the last LD but the Compo was a bit stressful so I think I won’t do the compo this time…  Right? Maybe? Well, we’ll see.

Check out Stickman Sam in the High Fly Sky!

If you haven’t already, take a look at my entry Stickman Sam in the High Fly Sky.  I’ve recently updated it with a Web port that is available on Newgrounds.

Stickman Sam in Flight

Game not done yet by any means but getting close!  Title is work in progress.   Idea of game is to fly around using mouse button and avoid birds and pick-up bonuses.  As you hold down the mouse button to move, you lose stamina and when you run out of stamina the game is over.  Bonus hearts give back stamina as well as some bonus points.  Booster bonuses allow you to use a rocket for a short time that also causes your stamina to grow back.  Star bonuses give you a huge score bonus.  Letting go of the mouse button will cause you to fall and gain back stamina at 2x the degradation rate, but be careful not to fall off screen or it is game over!  A second mouse button control will be added for a yet to be determine offensive feature.  Here is a preview video:

I’m in, I think.  We’re suppose to say that right?
