That Fateful Night is my entry into Ludum Dare 33, and my second game made for Ludum Dare!

That Fateful Night (TFN for short) follows the story of an enigmatic person who just so happens to break into a house and murder a little girl’s parents. Completely and utterly horrendous, their child discovers the incident just after it occurred.

From there, it is up to you as the killer to locate the fleeing girl and try to stop her from snitching! If you can’t though, that’s okay (Because it will never happen), but you can take out revenge on her before the police arrive. The parting words at the end differ depending on your actions in the game, so experiment a little (but not too much (please don’t break my game!)).

Over the past 40 hours I have had a lot of fun making this little monstrosity of a game come to life. The concept changed a little bit over the course of development, but for the most part, it was rather smooth sailing. My favourite part of the experience was seeing and hearing the intro sequence come together. The Sine wave scream fits so perfectly.

A/D: Move left/Right
W: Enter door/Climb Stairs
E: Interact
Press LMB: Use Axe (Holding for a second gives a faster and larger swipe)
A/D + RMB: Dash (Used for evading attacks (bullets, pesky knives))

Well now. The first day of the dare is over (for me). This is my second foray into the fun and games of Ludum Dare, and I’m sure it won’t be my last.

I had a pretty decent idea of what I wanted to make this time around, and the theme was a perfect fit for making it! I spent a large part of the day making visual and aural assets for my game before making the introduction sequence. Whilst not *quite* complete, I think it tells enough of the story to explain what it is we’ll be doing in the game; Hunting down victims!

DictionBlade is finished!

Whew! This is my first Ludum Dare. and oh how fun it is!

Presenting to my fellow Game Jammers, DictionBlade! It is a game where your words prove sharper than your sword. Rather, it is your words that sharpen your sword.


Upon grasping the eponymous DictionBlade (which is used as a rapier, as pens are more stabby stabby than slashy slashy), you have a duty to get as far as you can through the depths of wherever this place is. The blade needs honing and only your words can do so and for only a single strike. Each enemy is weak to a different kind of word, denoted by their colour. Whether you take the blade into your hand is your own decision, however having it does make traversing the depths of whereverland much easier.

I admit that the aesthetic is about the most I could do; I haven’t progressed very far in the artistic department since kindergarten, unfortunately :(

Regardless, I had a lot of fun making and finishing it within this 48 hour period; I’m looking forward to seeing what people come up with at the end of the Comp/Jam!
