Started on the stage! the ent’s heart fruit will rise out of the hole as it absorbs sunlight, and the bushes will shake as it steps. Still wondering about if the buttons should be mushrooms or flowers…

so these guys are some ideas for the swarm that comes at you. The game idea thus far:

Center of arena: heart/brain flower

Sides of arena: Direction flowers

Background: 3D viewport, basic dark/light areas

All around you: swarms of these guys

So you need to fight off the hordes of these creatures trying to sap the light energy from the ent you’re riding on top of, while running back and forth to either end of the arena to steer the ent towards the next spotlight.

You win when the heart flower in the center of the stage absorbs enough light

I’m almost done modelling the main character, then I need to do a quick texture and a few animations, which should take me the rest of the day, because I have to nap now. Not sure if I want to render out the frames and do the rest of the game sans background in 2d or not, but it may be easier that way. I really wanted solid animation for the main character so that’s why I made sure to do her in 3d. I also really wanted to play with 3d a lot more, and this has been great practice for me!

 

I also have to do freelance when I get up for a few hours, ugh.. luckily this game is not too complicated to make in and of itself.

 

Wiggly start. But it’s a start.

I spent a few hours concepting things and wound up with this. And then straight into 3d modelling, here is my start at the model.

Aiming and jetpacking around is great, got the main tiles done, player fully animated (for now) and behold! aliens!

To do:

Particle system, multiple guns, map the cave and populate it, add meaningless greeble and flavor tiles. AI.

I’ll have SOMETHING done but I doubt I’ll finish what I set out to do. That’s fine with me.

Late start! But likely to make it for the jam.

Yesterday I got around to a bit of sfx/coding, today I started it off with some graphics!

One leg is lacking a frame (poor planning) but that’ll come as a later fix, for now it’s time to put him in the game! Segmenting the body will allow me to easily aim in 6 directions with the upper body while the lower body reacts to movement/jumping/falling. Looks a bit stiff in the end, but it’s a marine!

Screenshots to come once I get some tiles and stuff going!
