GrapplingHookus – working version

As I couldn’t make my game in time for the compo, I will try to finish it for the jam.

My game is very simple, grab enemies with right mouse button and then shoot them to other enemies with left mouse button.

Here is a screenshot of the game, in the next hour I will try to improve a bit the graphics because current graphics sucks 😀

If you want to test it, please follow the next link: GrapplingHookus

I failed to start anything yesterday because I didn’t like the idea too much and I think it was to complex. Now I have a simple idea and nicer, but I believe I have no time to make it. Even though I will try to do something in the time left for the competition.

Here is a screenshot of what I will trying to do:

I think you will understand easily the concept.

I will start right now.

Hokus the drain master

Hi, my game will be Hokus the drain master. It will be based in Kirby and Yoshi. Hokus is a creature who has masterized all absorbing techniques at one point he can take all enemies powers and replicate them.

I think it will be a 2d plataformer but I am deciding yet.

At least I will show my workspace:

And a basic mockup of Hokus character:

Second chance, I hope to win this time :D

About timelapse videos on youtube

People, I was trying to watch some timelapse videos on youtube of Ludum Dare #17 and there is a lot of videos named only “Ludum Dare #17”. It would be nice to use the game name on the video like “Ludum Dare 17 – Timelapse – Gaiadi”.

Thanks, and nice videos 😀

There is a lot of work to do yet, here is my current (changes a lot) TODO list (raw version, I copied the txt from my desktop), and some nice screenshots of the game. Also, I have a video of the game, as usual.

TODO:

– change image of jumper to face jump direction

– nicer image/animation of jumper
– add finish game when no more scenes
– collide on the base of the sprite
– use physics engine for collisions and movement? maybe jbox2d

– you have to walk on all islands to finish screen
– horizontal scroll?

– , and possibly jumps limit?

– try game mechanichs like worms2
– add playtime

– bug with deltadiff and jumping :(
– bug with the clouds images when changing position…
– bug with the island collision
– animation for jetpack fire

– change arrow to be something like a trapezoid from alpha color to plain color, from thin to no thin

DONE:

– fix the jumper position to be really over the island
– keep player state (lives) between scenes
– move islands like they are really floating
– add scenes in xml format
– arrow visible
– dont collide if going up
– add finish island
– add jetpack fire when jumping
– add images for the lives
– add lives, and if you lose three times, screen telling Game over
– restart from the last island
– add wind sound
– add jetpack sound

– add jumps count
– remove jump when jumping
– restart if fall outside the screen.
– draw jumpdirection
– jump

The game is playable now, I have added new images and finished the basic gameplay. I want to upgrade some things like the movement using some physics engine maybe.

I have a new video of the game, the game has sounds but I recorded the video with the game muted.

Here are some of the assets of the game:

Well, now we can Jump and Die if we fall to no island. I added clouds to make the idea we are really high 😛

Here is a video of the current status.

Floating Islands

I am making another game with islands in the sky :S (I saw the other posts).

The idea of the game (for now) is to jump from one island to another using forces like worms2 for example, activating a jetpack of a jumper guy. There would be another challenges like moving islands or things like that.

Here are pics (low def) from my working desktop, from the whiteboard with the first idea and at last one starting shots of the game template (using gimp).
