I made a small prototype but I won’t be able to complete the game ):

Here’s it!

Late start

I probably won’t be able to finish this but I decided to join in the last minute!

My first concept was to make a game where you controlled an octopus arm, but then it just became a snake somehow.

I want to do something similar to Rampage but top-down, unfortunately this would take more time than what I have so I’m just going to simplify everything.

Here’s the mockup I’ve been working on for the last couple hours.

Better late than never! Started making this today in Construct 2, and it’s almost done.

It’s basically Joust with ballons and a time limit. If you kill an enemy by bumping it from the above you reset the time limit, and if you grab a clock you add 3 seconds to it.

Still need to add better graphics and sounds, then I guess it’s done!

Ok, so I gave up on the compo because my game was too hard and bugged. BUT I fixed everything (or most of it) now, and submitted it to the Jam!

And thanks for everyone who commented. I wish I could’ve made this yesterday, but I just didn’t have the time.

Yup. I really enjoyed making this game, but it is nothing like I had imagined in the beggining. Could make what I wanted in time, so I just decided to cut most of things.

You can play it here:

Almost done, but..

I’m almost finished, but my game is SO SHORT. I’m pretty sure I won’t have the time to add anything else.

Well, blame’s on my for sleeping more than I intended to, because of a stupid cold.

Anyway, here’s the latest version:

I might just start doing sound and the intro/game over screens, then adding an ending, so, if I do finish before the end of LD, I might add more things.

Done for today

Welp, it took me a long while to get a basic AI working, but here it is.

Throwing spears is kinda fun! Controls are arrow keys, Z and X.

It’s kinda hard too, but I made it so the enemies always drop a heart to make it easier.

Of course, since it’s really late I’m about to make a lot of cuts to my original idea.

Instead of having him evolve through different species, I’ll just have the dog-people, maybe add different kinds since the basic AI is there.

And only at the end, he ends up evolving into one of them.

Still so much to do, so little time..

edit: I forgot to mention, if you’re not showing up in the village at the beggining, just refresh the game until it happens.

As I started to draw hearts for HP using GraphicsGale, check out what the thumbnail showed.

Introducing; basic AI!

Finally got around making the first AI. I gave up on using a jaguar-man because the sprite look so bad, and decided to make him into a human-dog hibrid, almost like Anubis.

New stuff since the last update here:

  • You can now shoot spears by pressing X
  • Intro and first part of the game is 90% done, only missing the last cutscene
  • Started making the Caves, a place where the dog-people live.
  • Created a basic AI for them, if you get close enough they’ll enter in “attack mode” and keep their distance
  • Still have to implement golden spears, that they’ll shoot at you from time to time

That’s pretty much it! Also I can’t livestream anymore because my computer isn’t being able to handle it very well, as I’m not even using a videocard.. I’m also really worried about this, because I can’t even test my game properly (it runs around 25-30fps in here when it should be running at 60fps). And I can’t even use webgl effects. BUT at least I can use particles and it won’t slow down the game much!

Here’s the game (being uploaded as I make it, since I’m using dropbox):

Introducing: Jaguar people!

Posted by (twitter: @andreyin)
Saturday, August 25th, 2012 1:39 pm

After the comet crashed, people evolved and mutated into different animals. These are the jaguar people. They are ferocious, fast, and can jump really high.

Now, onto programming the ability to shoot spears so you can kill them.

Also.. AI ):

Cutscene working!

Got the cutscene fully working, I just hope it works the same on every computer. Since I don’t have a videocard, it might be working well here, but not that well on better computers..

Just finishing making a short cutscene.

Unfortunately, my videocard broke 2 days ago, and I’m unable to use the new Construct 2 webgl shader effects.. it would really be handy.

Also, I’m uploading the game constantly as I test it to this link:

And I set up a stream in this link:

I made a livstream channel!

Made a livestream channel to show my progress, and have it recorded so I can watch where I messed up later hahaha.

I drew a little walking animation. It looks like the little guy is hopping around, so I decided to call him Hopper.

The free version of GraphicsGale won’t allow me to save as a .gif though, so here’s just the frames.

Going to bed now, maybe think about level design.

I’m really unsure about it, I’m thinking about a metroidvania-like design (only a lot shorter, of course), but I’m completely sure I won’t have the time, now matter how basic the graphics/programming will be.

Progress on my game – first hour

So, I just got home (not my home, but anyway) and I spent the last hour drawing a mockup of the game I’ll make.

Here it is:

I’ve got a basic idea of what the game will play like.

Basically, you’re this caveman, and a meteor comes from the sky killing most of living things. You wake up after a billion thousand years, only to find that the human race has evolved into different types of humans/animals. Then, you go around exploring and evolving yourself.

I still have no idea of how to make the main character change into an animal hybrid. Maybe by collecting something? I thought of doing something like “if he jumps a lot, he’ll end up evolving his jump abiltities, so he’ll jump even higher” but I’m not sure I’ll use that as a gameplay mechanics.

And since I’m using my girlfriend’s computer at the time, I can’t even start programming until tomorrow, so I’ll just keep drawing and getting my ideas straight.
