Yggdrasil: fixed minor bugs

Wednesday, August 31st, 2016 5:42 am

I have uploaded a new version. It does not have any significative change (because it is a Ludum Dare entry), but I have fixed some messed up collisions. I have modified the player’s physics too, now it has a smoother control and it is less slippery.

Why don’t you give it a try? I will really appreciate it! Also, any feedback will be welcome! Play it here

Innovative Games

Tuesday, April 26th, 2016 7:27 pm

(You can play our entry here)

(Looking for games to try and rate, please post yours on a comment)

The games I am going to show on this post are focused on innovation. Maybe they are not perfect, we all know that innovation is risky but extremely gratificant.

However, it is interesting to see games like this. I personally love the innovation in videogames, even if they have flaws. It is a brave way to discover something new that may help other developers to improve their games, and who knows, maybe they inspire completely new mechanics.

So here they are: some entries of the LD35 that I consider higly innovative.

Just Roll With It (Try here)

This one is a classic move-rocks puzzle game, but with a twist: it is specially designed for playing it with Oculus DK2 and Omni. So, if you own both of these, go try it right now! I tried it on web since I don’t have Oculus neither Omni, but the game overall is funny and has good graphics, so it must be a great VR experience.

play (Try here)

A little arkanoid type game. Gameplay is a bit conventional, a classic breakout game, so, where is the innovation? It is on the “brick” animation. Their moves are based on a song, ANY song you import into the game. So yeah, mechanic it is not different from the original one, but the generated sound wave really amazed me.

Cloud Sculptor (Try here)

This one has not an objective, nor a conflict. So it is more a “toy” rather than a “game”. Nothing wrong with it! I enjoyed the experiment, maybe it needs to be a bit polished but i found it relaxing and interesting.

Snakoban (Try here)

Snakoban is a minimalistic game, with what I think it is a new point of view of the old Snake game. Your objective is to touch the green pixel of the level by growing yourself, but you have to be careful with all the “sand” bits of the puzzles. Its mechanic is really really original, so that is why I included it on this post.

Inner Maze (Try here)

One of my favourite entries of this Ludum Dare, here the scenario changes its shape depending on your heartbeat (well, not you real heartbeat, but the character’s). So you have to move if you want to keep things moving! More to the point, depending on the character’s emotions, some elements of the environment will reveal.

Here is where this post ends. I know there are more innovative entries, but I prefered to post some of those who aren’t as known as others. And, to say the truth, some of the other innovative games I found were promoted on other posts I wrote, and I didn’t want to repeat myself.

But maybe you know some more. Would you share them? Write on a comment!

Games you can play… again

Monday, April 25th, 2016 7:36 pm

(You can check our entry here)

I like to write posts promoting some entries. To be honest, I find it that this edition has a really good level overall, for the moment I haven’t found any game that had a rate less than 3/5. I am really enjoying it, and here are some of the games I played and I like the most.

I am looking for more games to play, post yours on a comment!

Gamejolt’s ads

Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 10:52 am

First of all: I have nothing against Gamejolt’s ads. I think they are a great way for the web and the devs to get something to keep developing and uploading.

This is just a “funny” reflexion I had since the very first time I uploaded Henkan Pachinko to Gamejolt.

So yea, let’s say that, umm, you finish your beautiful and fancy Ludum Dare entry (solo or with mates). You have put a great effort to it, maybe you have not sleeped, maybe you have not eaten (ok, this one is strange), you haven’t seen the sun. Your family and friends had reported the police because of your disappearence, your couple is starting to think you are cheating him/her, and then starts thinking you probably have a hidden family.

But nothing matters! You are happy with you little indie game. It could be better, maybe, but you finished it on a weekend! And that is a triumph. You had fun, after all.

You finish to compile for web. You create the game’s page on Gamejolt, you upload it. The upload finishes and you click on the “Play” button, daring to try it.

But before that, an ad. And not a normal ad. A fu***** blockbuster videogame ad.

These are the games I saw advertised on Gamejolt the past days

“What a nice game!”, you say. “I might want to try it, they look incredible”, you say. “Oh, the ad has finished, let’s try our LD game”, you say.

So your game starts, and you see THIS.

pantallazohenkanintro

So cool

You compare with the games you have just seen. “What have I done”, “After seeing the others, mine is a crap!”. You start to feel and make some strange expressions in just two seconds.

Fortunately, you remember that those games had a budget of millions of dollars and were done over lots of months (maybe years). You remember you had a great time (solo or with friends), now you can meet new devs and the lil entry you have can be the base of something bigger. That is all what matters.

In our case, someone got angry because he thought that we put the ads to our game, that it was “the first time he saw a Ludum Dare entry with an ad”. He kindly sponsored his comment with a viagra ad.

Well, I simply wanted to share my thoughts with somebody else. Have you experienced something similar?

First of all, I recommend you try our web game Henkan Pachinko. Why? Well, because it is our game, and I would be an idiot if I didn’t profit from this post to promote ourselves (you can try it here).

Henkan Pachinko now on WebGL

Wednesday, April 20th, 2016 8:31 pm

Captura

We have managed to solve some issues that didn’t let us make a WebGL build. But we did it!
So now, you don’t have to worry about which browser are you using.
However, WebGL is still experimental, and the graphics aren’t as fancy as on the other ports. So please, if you want to see it “prettier”, just play the Unity Web Player version or download a build.
Thanks for your attention!
