Ludum Dare traffic control game coming along

So we have been working diligently on our Jam game. It is about controlling traffic efficiently by placing as few traffic signs as possible. Here is a sneak peek:



We tried to find a good free spline package for Unity but they were all either undocumented/broken/or both, so we will just roll our own. Anyone got any good pathing suggestions for the future?

I am in the Jam version this year. We have a group of 4 people so far:
Programming: me(Tyler Mitchell) and Patrick Galagan

Art: Jonathan Lowery

Sound: Andrew Hesik

We will be using Unity and C# for the bulk of the work.

Code Tools: Mono Develop, Visual Studio 2012, Notepad++

Art tools: Maya, Gimp, Paint.NET, Blender

Sound tools: Ableton, Audacity

Organization tools: Skype, Git, Dropbox, Wunderlist

Looking for one more 3d artist for our group. Super excited, the theme selection is great this time too.

The biggest possible carrot

So I havn’t had very much time to work but I should still get this done for the compo assuming no more interruptions. This is what it looks like so far. It’s very close to functionally complete, hopefully I’ll get some time to pretty up the graphics and add sound.

I have my Idea!!

That time has come again. Every year the town has a competition to see who can grow the largest carrot. Your neighbor always wins somehow but this time will be different, this time you will win by any means necessary. There are two gardens growing carrots next to each other. Your carrots will grow at a much slower rate than your neighbors, so you must sabotage your neighbors field by putting rabbits in it, spraying them with chemicals, and transplanting weeds.

the rabbit eats a whole carrot

Each sabotage costs money which you earn more or less of by promptly taking care of your plants.

So now I am going to make a bunch of first run art and then probably get some sleep. Major work comes in the morning!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Game Jam and I need my fix. This time I am not sure what I will be using so I will just list everything that I am considering in order of likelihood.

1.Python, Pygame, and Kivy (want to learn it, want to take advantage of phone inputs)
2. C++, SFML, Box2d (if game requires physics)
3. HTML5 and H5GE (if it’s tiled, or fits better in a browser)
4. C#, Unity3d (if the game requires 3d)
5. Flashdevelop, Actionscript, and Flashpunk (If I end up in the jam with friends)

My asset tools will likely be the same:
Blender, SFXR, Audacity, Gimp, Paint.NET, Notepad++

The themes this year are great and I don’t feel we can really go wrong. So good luck everyone and I’ll see you in chat!

I will be using Javascript again and my engine that I am working on. It can be found here: https://github.com/TylerMitchell/H5GE_Overhaul

I will be using Notepad++ as my IDE, Paint.NET for my graphics,  Audacity and maybe Anvil Studio for my sounds and music. My pledge for this LD, unlike my previous attempts is to set my scope small enough to get the game programmed in 24 hours so that I can spend the next 24 tweaking and polishing. I will finish this time (unlike last time)

Fairly disappointed in my first run last time and have come back prepared. I will be using:

  • Language: Javascript, HTML5, CSS
  • Graphics: Paint.net and GIMP
  • Sound: sfxr and Audacity and possibly some other cool stuff I find before then :)
  • Engine: I will be using an opensource framework that I hope to have at V1 by comp date. I’ll keep the latest version here https://github.com/TylerMitchell/h5ge-1
Can’t wait for the competition!!
