I’ve completed LD20

I had a very frustrating beginning as this was the first time I made a platformer with flash. I almost quit a few times the first day, but I held in there. Then Sunday (today) I went out for a bit and realized I probably didn’t have enough time to finish the game. When I got home I decided to see how much I could get done before the deadline. Guess what? I finished it! It’s missing sounds/music and a proper ending though, but it is fulling playable. I am very proud. =]

Will post timelapse later.

Pre-LD #20 Post

Since I’ve been working like a dog this past week on another project, my LD entry will hopefully be short and simple! I want to make a simple platformer but it really depends on what the theme is. I hope its something exciting! =] I have a new project set up in FlashDevelop with the FlashPunk library ready to go! I will be doing a time-lapse again, but without the webcam.

FOUR HOURS TO GO!

LD #20!

This will be my second Ludum Dare! Last LD, I used GameMaker to create a fairly simple rouge-like that was pretty bug ridden. Since then, I’ve moved on to flash development! Yay! I’ve learned quite a bit and I’m excited to put all of it into LD20

I will be programming in AS3 using FlashDevelop. I will also be using a modified version of Chevvy Ray’s fantastic FlashPunk library, BFXR for sounds, and (if I can do it/have time to do it) pxtone for the sound track.

Good luck to all! =]

…my original plans for this weekend did indeed get in the way of finishing my entry. There is way too much to do with my game before the deadline so I am withdrawing from this miniLD. This was not a waste though; I learned quite a few things about Java and Eclipse while working on my game. So hopefully next LD I will be using Java also to create a game with sprites instead of text! Though I am quite proud my my little text adventure engine. =]

Until next time,

-Alex

First MiniLD

While this is my first MiniLD, it is my second LD in general! =D I participated in the last big one and I hope to participate on this one. I’ve been learning Java the past few weeks so I’m planning on making a simple text adventure game for whatever theme is chosen. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish though because I hadn’t originally planned this weekend for an LD. So I have other commitments to take care of also, but hopefully I’ll get a little something out . =]

Here are some progress screen shots:

Yeah, the hull and supply can go negative at the moment. I haven’t implemented any consequences to make debugging easier for right now.

…and  I have basic functionality with a couple of the core features. It took me longer than I expected to come up with the initial idea, but once it came to me I started steam rolling though it. You control the little ship and currently your main goal is to uncover the whole map (which is procedurally generated) which is represent by the yellow bar/percentage. I’m think of changing this though, because this could become very tedious; theres 30000 tiles in a world to uncover. You can also colonize big islands which I was planning on having generate more supply for you, which is what keeps you floatings. No supplies=game over. Still working in other features as i go along. But now, I must get a few hours of sleep!
