Seeing a lot of great stuff here

Keep it up, and don’t sweat it :). Seeing a lot of impressive looking things so far. Carry on!

No idea yet, but gonna start

Had a work christmas party tonight, so im starting a few hours late. I know it’s not in rules anymore, but the code im starting with roughly from last week warmup: https://github.com/agmcleod/ld34-warmup. I’ll likely exclude box2d in the build, as i dont think i’ll need full physics.

Game done, and submitted an hour early

Got the game done in time for the Compo deadline. When the theme came up, I somehow thought of the idea “Ninja with a Teddy Bear”. I wanted to create a top down game, so I put the ninja in a room where he has to take out enemies of some kind. The boss quickly became a little girl who wants the teddy, so she spawns enemies at you who will stun you after a short duration.

I think the only real downside is my art. I wish i could have done a higher quality title screen :). Check it out here, and give me some honest feedback: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-32/?action=preview&uid=15813

This will be my 8th ludum dare, yay! 7th to hopefully submit, as last one in the summer i lost motivation and wanted to continue on a bigger project I had already started. This time though I’ll actually put some thought into it and get something done.

Pretty much going to use my usual stack:

MelonJS HTML5 game engine.
Sublime text 3 to code
Pixelmator for art
My guitar and or garage band for music, cfxr for sound effects.

I’ll likely do the 48 hr compo, as I usually can’t seem to convince friends of mine to join me.

October Challenge

Have a couple things that I can approach for this years October challnge

Been starting on a top down game, with some minor random map generation, somewhat like a rogue like, but more like an RPG with rogue elements. Going to build it with Phaser to give that engine more of a try.

Another thing is I could work on my LD29 game a bit more: http://projects.agmprojects.com/searchforhope. It’s something I would like to work on more, but i’ve held that off a bit as I’ve been working towards WebGL support in MelonJS.

Not sure which I’ll do yet, but new projects are always fun. Been a while since i’ve started one :)

Sooo many enemies. they just keep coming!

Not sure if I’ll do the Jam yet or the Compo. A programmer friend of mine wants to do it, but needs to get back to me if he can. If he can, we’ll just do a Jam entry in the 48 hours, otherwise I’ll do the 48 hour compo.

Will be using MelonJS for the game itself. I’ll work on any art using a tablet I have & Pixelmator. Music will probably do through my iPad mini + Garage Band. Sound effects if needed with CFXR or something to that nature.

Added to my LD28 game for my family

As per my submission, I made the game have 3 parts. I didnt add much instruction on parts 2 & 3, because i was having my brother & parents play those parts in person. I made part 1 a bit trickier to play, part 2 & 3 are fairly easy as my parents aren’t gamers. It’s basically a christmas card to my family.

In progress!

Working on an interactive christmas card for my family. For this weekend, my goal is to build the first part, which is a car drive that my brother will take to vist us. I have simple dodging around the cars going. If you crash or go off the road into the snow and get stuck, you must restart.

You’re in the blue car in case it’s hard to tell.

This would be my 5th Ludum Dare, yay! Looking forward to making a game. Im thinking of doing an interactive christmas card sorta deal for my family. But I’ll see what the theme is first.

Here’s a playlist I love listening to while programming: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLJO1zgiMtrW6hs3xz3WpyY2TKevuKF9y&feature=mh_lolz basically a bunch of epic music 1 hr compilations.

It’s almost done, just try to improve track spawning so impossible scenarios don’t arise.

Where I’m at

Well I haven’t made a post yet, so here it is. I’m working on a game that still involves darkness + the 10 seconds for a mechanic.

The idea here is the game is completely black. You can however trigger a flash light to light things up for 7 seconds. After 3 more seconds you may light it again. You need to collect all the coins and make it to the door.

So far I have the light mechanic and coin collection working, next on the list is traps & enemies :).

Making great progress

Most of the gameplay is done. I think i set my scope quite right. I could go bigger, but I want to make something that feels done and nice, rather then getting no sleep to make something over the top. It’s great to see how much I’ve improved at this over the past 8 months or so since I first started LD.

Epic music to listen to

I love listening to epic instrumental music when I need to focus, or even game for that matter. Couple videos i like of that:

Since it’s such an abstract object, I’d love to see what people come up with involving a potato. Think of the hilarity!

Logging mention tweets with activerecord

To follow up my last post, wrote some logic to use an active record model and store things in a postgresql table. Just storing the tweet status text for now. Code is located here: https://github.com/agmcleod/twitterapitesting
