Quick Update

So, it looks like I’m still in and just to recap here’s the list of what I’m using:

I’ve yet to decide if I’ll use external packages when programming in Dart, since it’s so easy just to set up the Dart editor to download a few packages to make life just that much easier, or if I’ll just write everything from scratch. I’m hoping I’m capable enough just to write it from scratch but it’s good to know that there is that option. However, when it comes to sound I’m at something of a loss. I guess I’ll just use BFXR or something, but I’ll worry about that when the time comes. Core programming first, then assets… Good luck to those who are entering!

I failed horribly last time, but I remain confident, well I say confident perhaps ‘hopeful’ is a more apt word.

Tools and whatnot:

  • Google Dart for code
  • Pyxel Edit for the art
  • ??? for sound (Any suggestions?)

I’ve been fooling around with Dart for a week or so and it’s pretty fun to use. I’ll be utilising dart2js for the ‘final’ product so it’ll end up being HTML5.

I’m out of the comp, I thought I had a good thing going but I’m simply far too new at the tools I decided to develop with and AS3 is hardly my strongest language. But I don’t want to make excuses for myself, I wasn’t good enough and I didn’t use the warm-up time effectively enough to learn what I had to. I enjoyed learning new things and I will participate in the next LD and possibly the MiniLD…

So there it is my day was put pretty well entirely into that… Granted it’s not a lot but movement code is in, collision code isn’t too far off and then I can start the fun part of level creation/generation (it depends on whether or not I feel up to it at the time). I’m off to sleep, see you all tomorrow.

Getting there… Sort of. Oh, and I have Beck’s :D

Progress has been made, but is more of an internal progress. I know what I’m working on and it should be done by the end of the comp.

I also have found nourishment in liquid form… It’s called beer and I recommend it for the over 18s/21s. Good luck everyone else on their games,

Brilliant, a lot of people have no idea what to do and I even see people calling this a bad theme, even some newbies like myself are calling this a bad theme. This is a great theme… Far better than potato at very least.

Initially I had the idea of just supporting the Flash and AIR platforms but after a little internal debate, I’ve decided to expand that to HTML5 as well. So there will be three versions:

  • Flash (Online)
  • HTML5
  • Native (AIR, and that’s for Windows PCs only… Sadly I do not have a Mac)

I really wanted to do something for me while on I was break from University, it just works out that this Ludum Dare is on the weekend before my break ends, so I’ve decided that this will be my “Me” project.


  • Flash CS6 Professional or FlashDevelop (Depending on the sort of game that I want to make to suit the theme)
  • Pickel/Paint.NET (I’m not the best artist so don’t expect much)
  • Sublime Text 2/3 (Just bought it after trialing the free version for months, far better than Notepad++ and made by a fellow Aussie!)
  • Adobe AIR (I want to get used to the AIR API so that I can develop for mobile specifically, there will be a web version though)
  • Bfxr (Seems the easiest)

My aim to to make an slightly more abstract game than your stock standard side-scroller or top down shooter. Equally, I want to be realistic with the sort of features that I can implement in my first Ludum Dare game. The tools above list about everything I want to use but music… I have no idea what I want to do in regards to music, but as that probably won’t be a really integral part of the gameplay I won’t worry about that just yet.
