expectation vs. reality

when drawing out the initial narrative for my poem game, i pictured it as something like this:

the final result, on the other hand:


i still find that making the planning document helped. it gave me a general flow to adhere to, and helped supply the nexus points i would work around (still mostly visible the final layout). from there, it just become about adding branches to the three major arcs i’d previously identified, even if i hadn’t quite understood during my initial planning the degree to which those branches would intermix, or the ways variables set in previous arcs would affect later ones. it’s much easier to “fill in the blanks” then it is to try working towards a murky goal.
