Think you have the best Theme idea for Ludum Dare? Tell us what it is.

If you’re new to the ‘New Theme Selection’ process, every user can suggest a maximum of 3 Theme ideas. This goes on for nearly 3 weeks. After that, we sort through the mega-list of themes in something called the Theme Slaughter. Finally, the weekend before Ludum Dare, we kick-off several rounds of Theme Voting, before the Final Round.

The Theme for Ludum Dare 35 will be announced at the start of the event. When is that? Go to the theme website, and it should tell you at the top of the page. Otherwise, check the countdown clock at the top of this page.

Is it broke for just me?

So, can we expect new site anytime soon?

There will be a couple new things this time (main one I’m keeping as a surprise), but we’ll still be on a hybrid site for this event (i.e. Theme Selection on new site, submission on old site). This week I need to migrate the old server to a new host, so that’s going to be some serious work. The streaming widget is broken, so I’m probably going to fast-track the replacement. Steam Widget is also broken, but I may just disable the broken parts.

I put together some videos on some of the Ludum Dare internals, but I’m sitting on them at the moment due a problem I was having.

Merch, I haven’t had any time to get this going.

If I go to the theme suggestion site after already logging in and suggesting themes, the login button still appears. Clicking on it takes me to where I can suggest themes. This doesn’t cause any problems, it’s just a little weird. Also, the logout button doesn’t seem to do anything. However, at one point Firefox gave an unresponsive script error. What’s going on here?

is there any way to see what other people have suggested? i think it would be kind of interesting to see what other people are thinking as well as vote for our own suggestion.

    • PoV says:

At the moment no. The step after that would be to allow some sort of pre-slaughter voting, or theme feedback, and I’m not sure what I think about that just yet. I’ll have to mull that over. Maybe there is benefit having a way to discuss themes while they’re being suggested, I’m just not yet sure of the most effective way to do that.

I was planning to add a way to browse popular suggestions from prior events, and let you bookmark your favourites. Just not sure I’ll get around to it this time (we’ll see).

Is the slaughter button coming back???

  7. Nonomomomaster says:

The site crashes every time I click the login button. Anybody else have that problem?

    I can’t delete my suggestion!

  9. BradleySmith says:

Wish the themes were more edgy, always feel like they’re a bit generic as they’re decided by the masses.

  10. Sun-Wukong says:

Theme site not working – it showing “Login” button thought I logged in already, and after pressing this button it shows error “Error: empty”, and freezes browser afterwards. Tried on every browser from two different locations with different ISP, it’s not working anywhere.

  11. Carnivoris says:

Ditto. Can’t login to the suggestion form on any browser. If I try to login using Firefox, I get an error that a script is unresponsive. That script url is

  12. Jezzamon says:

The links at the top to skip to the theme voting or to skip all the voting completely and see the theme announcement don’t work

  13. LoneStranger says:

What is funny is that my work’s spam filter has classified “” as pornogrpahy. :)
