While Ludum Dare is typically an online event (make a game from the comfort of your home), many real world events happen around Ludum Dare. Most events have limited space, so RSVP ASAP! Here’s the list:

US and Canada

Rest of the World

If you want your event on the list, post a comment letting me know where your event is. Be sure to include a link to further details (either here on the blog, or elsewhere).

We’ll be hosting a real world gathering in Brighton, United Kingdom. Located centrally in the city, ample space for participants. Planning to work as one team, though lone participants and other teams are more than welcome – it’s all about the atmosphere. RSVP to is required ahead of time for details on venue and general introductions.

Can you give a rough estimate how many you can take, and what I should call it (at the office of ??)? There’s been a couple 100+ person gatherings in the UK (I’ve been chatting with the organizer of a new one, but plans fell through last time), so I just want to confirm the size. Thanks!

      • Yann Eves says:

Current capacity would max out at 40, I reckon. Location is confirmed, this will be at “The Skiff” in Brighton. Not sure how others have organised it, however, we can’t offer an open door on the day, it will have to be by invitation – if it’s really that popular, we can accommodate this differently in future. Should there be the demand to organise a 100+ gathering in Brighton, I can look into this.

        • PoV says:

Oh great, that’s a lot larger than I expected. Thanks for the extra info.

I think the trick to bigger gatherings is something to do with a school (promoting them at, etc). I’m not sure how some of these folks manage that. I just got the impression it was a much smaller venue from the RSVP method (usually venues with room for 1-3 more people do e-mail RSVPs).

          • Yann Eves says:

Gotcha, indeed for larger space we’ve got connections with educational institutions (namely universities) in the area, and studios based in Brighton. Not something we’ve had the numbers to warrant so far, but I’m certainly keen! Cheers for the tips.

Just being wary with the email RSVP, don’t want to get overwhelmed since I’m not expecting large numbers this year. Just rinse and repeat – we’ll grow, I’m sure.

As usual, we’re hosting in Troy, New York at the Tech Valley Game Space. Important to note is that there will be a VR/AR/Gaming hackathon going on at the same time, with their own rule-set. While entering to that event is entirely optional, it does mean our space will be pretty busy during this game jam weekend. On the other hand, I’m hearing rumors about free food….
