That’s it for me

It was fun!
Unfortunately I don’t have the time to put the full 48 hours in.  I’m having to stop work on my game now — which is a pity because I was rather fond of the idea.  I’ll share some screenshots with you all.

It’s called WE PUT THE TRUTH OUT THERE.  You are the head of an up and coming Paranormal Magazine, specialising in unexplained monster and creature sightings.

However, as we all know, monsters aren’t actually real.

You are the monsters.

Hire and send your writers out into the world to fabricate stories, generate sales, and dominate the market.

Boost your stories by sending specialists (Actors/Photographers/Spindoctors), but don’t draw too much attention to yourself or you will attract investigators who will attempt to shut down your stories.

I had a lot of fun working on the project over the weekend.  Though I do regret picking something so “UI” heavy ( it was all a bit too close to work for me ).  I didn’t get around to making sound, and balancing this thing is a nightmare.  But I had great fun writing stories for all the monster types.  Each region had a selection of common monsters, and mythological/cryptozoological creatures from that region. Dropbears from Australia, Aswangs from the Philippines, to Chupacabras in South America.

The ‘Boosts’ system was a lot of fun as well, but I didn’t get a chance to add any data for it.

Say you had a story on Aliens.  If you had a photographer, and an Actor in the region, you could perform a fake Autopsy video, or if you had a Spindoctor and a Writer, you could fake some sort of alien writing.  All sorts of custom Boosts per item.

In the end, the game is mostly playable, however some UI choices I made early on have made the game super-confusing to play, and I simply don’t have the time to get them fixed.  It’s a pity, because I think this was a good one.

Best of luck to everyone else with your projects, I look forward to seeing them when they’re done!

What a clever interpretation of the theme! I’ll definitely check this out after the Jam wraps up.
