I‘m done? I’m done! Well, not really; I just value sleep, and it’s 2am here.

This was my first Ludum Dare, and here’s my first entry: Save

I think I ended up having a really neat idea on what to do, but I have many doubts about my execution. I think there needs to be more aspects of the game that encourage players to become attached to the characters, which I feel like this version kinda fails at. Oh well.

Things that I’ll take away from this event:

  • Making a game in its entirety is kinda exhausting.
  • Also, I think this is actually the first, complete(-ish), delivered game that I’ve ever made, which I’m still happy about.
  • I haven’t drawn anything in my life, so making the art for this game was… an experience.
  • Getting used to using Construct 2 took some time, but the tool definitely feels really powerful for quickly making small games.
  • I think my time management needs work. I spent 2 hours on the first day, about 3 or 4 on the next, and about 9 today.
  • My game probably has too many issues. I wish there was more time for playtesting :(

I have a lot of thoughts and issues about my game’s design too. Maybe I’ll write that up somewhere later.

Overall, I had a lot of fun with this event, and I think the experience of going from nothing to design, to implementation, to delivery, all in such a short time span will definitely go a long way.

Would definitely do again.
